Happily Jim, they had a few in stock. So we just traded and I was on my way.
They do a nice job on the finish too. I looks like bare metal but is has a tough coating of some sort. Even brake cleaner dripping down on it didn't hurt the finish.

Rear sway bar

Anyone use on of the rear sway bar kits sold by several vendors out there? I hear they do wonders for older cars in general but I have questions about how they bolt up. Specifically the ends - I can't find any instructions and I'm curious what the ends are mounted to. Any idea's? Thx, Scott Linky: h...

Very helpful info, thanks Bob and Bob (Bobs?). It sounds like they weren't mounted very securely and were probably installed all over the place. I'll mount mine where it works for me. I'm going to try and get the body shop place to install a couple of nutserts like on the drivers side so t...

It does sound like a defect in the steering gear. My orig gear did this even after having Ford rebuild it. I replaced it again witha junk yard gear and that fixed it. Since that time it started leaking and was very sloppy so I got a gear from http://www.redheadsteeringgears.com/ . They rebuild them ...

Thanks for the replies everyone, I really appreciate it. Jim, would you possibly know the measurement from the edge of the door to the edge of the mirror mount? I'd like to get it as close to original as possible. Or were they just added "free hand"? An even more obscure question, were the...

Assuming there's a vacuum leak, another method is to spray brake cleaner or carb spray in the area in question and listen for the eng sound to change.

Rear view mirror

I find it very disconcerting driving the car without the other mirror so I'm installing a reproduction. For those that have cars with a factory RVM on the passenger side, it it mounted in the exact same location as the drivers side part? Also, the repro isn't remote adjustable, was the factory part?...

Can't help with the fuel leak (cracked housing?) but years ago I made the mistake of using a standard square bore gasket under the spacer plate and ended up with a massive vacuum leak. It made a loud sucking sound when cranking (or was it my rapidly dwindling mechanics ego?) ::?

Scumdog, I'd check the u-joints. They may be really sloppy.
What ever you figure out, I'd like to hear about it.

Wanna do something really dangerous? Just put in the year of your car and leave the parts description blank. It starts at the beginning and I think I could use one of everything :sad2:

Steve, your not kidding, I had the whole car up on blocks and even then it was pretty close under there. Glad I'm not fat(ter)!

I didn't notice a heat shield on the drivers side of your car (the pass side doesn't have one) . If it's missing you can buy one at the Bird Nest as well.

Wow, those are shot! I replaced both a couple of months ago. The Bird Nest has exact reproduction parts. The job was pretty easy - only took about an hour. A tip, the drivers side is easier to put in if the mount and its adapter bracket are assembled once the mount is in position (also easier to rem...

I posted this PDF once before. It's not great but shows a tiny image of the area. http://www.parts123.com/birdnest/pdf/Page263.pdf
