Re: ignition timing

I like using a vacuum gauge, when tuning my beastly 390, it is pleasing to see the gauge nice and steady between, 17-21. The following link has 16 different readings using a vacuum gauge, https://www.onallcylinders.com/2016/03/31/vac-visual-quick-guide-vacuum-gauge-readings/ I had thought I was post...

Re: Swing Away Steering Column Door Adjustment

After taking my dash out, and reinstalling, by luck I had the two pieces the right and left "doors" lined up, I had to drop the steering wheel, I lost how to get those pieces to line up again, like when they came out of the factory, one "door" when in Drive, lines up like it shou...

Re: 1966 front seatbelt buckle

My 66 has those push button releases, I don't trust them after all these years, they jam while connected, then the thoughts of what to do in case of an accident, and they will not unbuckle, makes myself prefer the buckle latch, maybe they are prone to the same problems, though newer than the 60's la...

Re: Rear cowl drain

If you can find or fabricate a piece to weld at that spot, that would be the way to go then treat the area with a product like POR15, not being so skilled with welding even though there is a welding shop near me, that could do the work required, the method I used after trying to fabricate something ...

Re: engine bay questions

Sorry I didn't answer sooner, but the day you wrote this, I had a heart attack. Back home today, proud owner of a quadruple bypass. All is well. I have 6 or 7 hinges in various states of repair (at least one original), and I'll begin sorting through them tomorrow and get photos. Terry 64HT I believ...

I had the same problem on the left side of my 66, the right side was still good.

Re: 66 pinion leak around the nut

There is a seal for the pinion gear assembly, there is also a vent on top of the right rear axle if it gets plugged, it can blow that seal, the vent is easy to clean with a thin wire, though the damage may be done.

Re: Ballast resistor

Rt 146 If I see clearly in the photo, you have the ballast resistor wired directly to the coil as a power feed. This will be a great method of providing the reduced voltage to the coil in the 'Run" condition, but may make it a difficult to start situation. If you have not disconnected the Pink...

Re: engine bay questions

Rt.146, It is pretty well impossible to realign the pivot when welding so that the hood will close properly. It seems that the hinge almost always closes high. In almost all the cars I've seen, the bolt is in the upper end of the slot, even with an undamaged hinge. There's lots of metal there, lengt...

Re: Ballast resistor

Thanks for the pink wire locations, Raven, I will look for them in the future, to tell what is going on with it. In the mean time I have a ceramic ballast resistor wired in siting next to the coil.

Re: engine bay questions

As my 66 Landau shows its age, this time being the left hood hinge infamous bearings, enlarging the hole they are in, eventually popping out, which has happen to mine, the fix is easy compared to other fixes, lucky the bearings still are turning, now that the hinge is off, I read about how the origi...

Re: brake replacement

Getting a new MC, if it has bottom instead of side mounts for the lines, big help as space is limited, because of the shock tower, what ever MC you get, do not alter the shock tower, banging or cutting to make the MC fit.

Re: an interesting window modification from Craigslist

Wondering how Frank Llyod Wright would install windows on the rear sails, three windows come to mind one on top of the other with the middle one being functional on both sides, if Ford did do the the window treatment back then, would it have been acceptable? If so, today a post could appear saying s...

Re: an interesting window modification from Craigslist

I find it an interesting idea, it can feel a little enclosed back there, even though the front door windows are large, what is not shown is how the sail panels fit was adjusted to the window.
