Thank you Paul for your reply. I have no problem removing the ring. Don't see any ground problem. Will probably replace the wire.

Horn question
The horn on my '56 only blows when I press the very center of the horn ring. It does not sound when I press down on the outer ring. What could be the problem?
Thanks.

Re: New 56 owner, and I am in need of some help!
With regards to a possible leak at the spin on oil filter, I had such a problem on my '56. Turned out the leak was where the adaptor plate met the block. The gasket behind the plate was very thin and did not seal. I found that the gasket that comes with an original canister filter was much thicker a...

Re: Trying to understand the horns.
As I understand it, there is a single wire running up to the steering wheel that is a ground wire from the horn relay. When you press the horn ring it completes the ground circuit activating the horn relay thus blowing the horn. There is no current flowing through that single wire.

I found that a donut spare from a 2007-2012 Dodge Caliber will work.

Re: ‘56 Exhaust Deflectors
Paul,
Glad to learn I am not the only one to question the design. If discoloration was the concern then why have cut outs in the bumper to begin with? Was it just to maintain a styling feature from the ‘55?

‘56 Exhaust Deflectors
Just curious as to the rationale for the exhaust deflectors on the ‘56 model. Why have exhaust cut outs in the bumpers and then install deflectors that direct the exhaust down below the bumper?

Re: Door Panels
Just to correct my initial post, the 1956 Trim and Sealer Manual does in fact show these jute strips on the backside of the door panels (page 6-3133).

Re: 1956 Power Steering Cylinder
I don't know if you can replace the seals with the cylinder in the car. I removed mine. Not difficult to do. Disconnect the two fluid lines and unfasten the rod shown in your picture as well as the mounting point. Remove the circle clip and then remove the seals. I used a drywall screw to screw into...

Re: Door Panels
Paul, would there be any reason why they are on the passenger side but not on the driver's side?

Door Panels
The passenger side door panel that was on my '56 had a number of pads stapled to the backside. They are shown by the arrows in the picture. They are made of the same material and have the same dimensions as what is cemented to the metal of the door underneath the door latch rod. The driver's side pa...

Power Window Switches
I am reassembling the door panels on my ‘56. On the driver’s side door power window switches, is the switch for the driver side window the one that is closest to the front of the car and the one for the passenger side towards the rear of the car?
Thanks.

Re: Door Handles
Thanks Paul. Looking around on eBay I found handles that are described as being originals with both styles of backsides. Is it possible that Ford used two different suppliers in 1956? The design of the one on the left makes it much easier to remove the clip spring so I am going to replace the one on...
