Re: Ballast resistor
Rt 146 If I see clearly in the photo, you have the ballast resistor wired directly to the coil as a power feed. This will be a great method of providing the reduced voltage to the coil in the 'Run" condition, but may make it a difficult to start situation. If you have not disconnected the Pink ...

Re: Ballast resistor
The so called "PINK" resister wire is with-in the car wiring harness, and traverses from the ignition switch and the fuse panel on 64 and 65 Birds. Not 100% sure on 66, as have never done the odes to a 66. I have jumpered the "PINK" wire on several cars and installed a direct byp...

Re: insulation in behind front fender splash guards
I applied a light coating of the rubberized rocker cover body side stone guard material, to the open faced side of the padding. The raw insulation material that is used on ductwork is sealed by the material manufacturer on the other face/side, so I did not apply any coating. The biggest challenge is...

Re: insulation in behind front fender splash guards
The insulation is one inch thick fibreglass material. I have done a few 64 MY cars and have recycled and also made new pieces from the same material as the hood pads, but purchased from an HVAC duct work company. Way cheaper than cutting up a hood pad set. In Scott"s case his car is a 66 This t...

Re: insulation in behind front fender splash guards
Alan, guess I am going to force you down another rabbit hole! In reguard of the subject, and I speak with certainty that 64 Birds did come with an insulation pad behind the front inner fenders, and fitted just in front of the door hinges. The pad was fitted and shaped against the A pillar and fender...

Re: insulation in behind front fender splash guards
66T I am not aware of anyone producing these panels. To buy a hood insulation kit would work, but a very pricey replacement and the waste in doing so. You would have to cut the centre pad and throw the rest away. The material is 1 inch thick standard HVAC duct insulation. If you reach out to any hea...

Re: engine bay questions
Also take note that you have the wrong battery hold down in your picture, from what I can see. There was no bracket at the battery corner but rather in the middle over slung the battery.
In 64 they used a lower clip at the bottom and end side of the battery, which gave more room at the solenoid.

Re: Speaking of roof paint.
This is a wild shot, but perhaps the roof colour is the stone guard film used on car rocker panels. It has a semi smooth finish, slight texture and comes in black. Perhaps applied to cover a rusty/pitted roof panel. Only a suggestion, and I too hate when people modify the car from original. Just my ...

Re: Stickers for 66
The decal is 1.625 tall as per the original, give or take a hair of rough measurement just now. I created it to be an exact repop.
I made my units a couple of years back so I do not have my engineering drawings at hand to be exact to a + or - dimension.
Its in CAD so I can redo when necessary.

Re: engine bay questions
Just so it is known, there are 3 different FAN decals for the period of late 63 thru to early 67, in my investigation to recreate these decals. All are basically the same except for the lower right corner, and the "Made in the U.S.A." badging. Late Late 63 - to 64 NO I.D. of the Made in th...

Re: 1966 part indentification request
To my knowledge ALL left side exhaust manifolds had a mounting hole that was threaded. Ford, I do not think would make two different manifolds for air or non-air cars.

Re: 1966 part indentification request
From memory and I know on some 64s there was also a bracket that came off of the compressor and mounted to the top of the intake manifold. Some intakes had a threaded hole and some did not, buf had the boss cast in to allow for tapping.

Plus to add to the confusion of 64 and 65 Bird engines being painted an Argent silver on certain cars. Not all were painted Black.

Re: Decypher 1965 Thunderbird Data Plate
Kartman, sorry no your car and all 65 Birds were built in the Wixom assembly plant in Detroit MI The DSO stands for District Sales Office, and in simple terms in what region the car would be shipped to for final sale. All this info can be found in the Shop manual in the index section. I highly recom...
