Re: 1964 Thunderbird rear end gearing
Wow, thanks! I was hoping to keep the cruise o matic if I could. I'm wondering how that would be with 3.73 gearing? Maybe I should go mid 3's on the gearing? LSD is something I will look at real hard as well. But let's say I go mid 3's and keep the cruise o matic - am I looking at a disaster lol? Fr...

1964 Thunderbird rear end gearing
Hello all! I wanted to pick your brains a bit. I have a 64 an I am going to rebuild the rear end in it myself. I was thinking about changing the gear ratio. Is anyone running something other than stock gears? I believe mine is 3.00 - was thinking about going to 3.25 or 3.50 or somewhere in there? 3....

Re: 1964 Thunderbird engine swap
I agree - I think what I am going to do is rebuild the stock 390 with new heads and intake as well - maybe swap over to a C6 for parts availability and simplicity - again, may keep the stock trans. Not crazy about fuel injection, like the simplicity of NOT having a computer - but I was considering a...

Re: 1964 Thunderbird engine swap
I think it would be very neat, but I would hate to chop one of these beautiful cars up to make it work. I think I will just park the roadmaster make sure it is stored correctly, and wait and see. I need to do some measuring and see how much I would have to chop up.

1964 Thunderbird engine swap
Hey guys, Been doing a great deal of thinking - I know, dangerous right? I may have even asked this before but would share my thoughts I am in now. My tbird's motor is not in great shape, the transmission is suspect too - I am wondering, I have a 95 Roadmaster with a busted body but GREAT LT1 motor ...

Re: 1964 Thunderbird wheel fitment
Looking good! I'll be curious to see how they look on the car with the whitewalls out. ~Steve. I know no other way to have my tires mounted than white walls out  When I had my 67 newport that had 235's on it they mounted the tires on my american racing rims with the white walls in - I was shoc...

Re: 1964 Thunderbird wheel fitment
A 70's series tire shouldn't be wider than a 75 if both are the same width specification. So a 215 in either one will be the same width - 215mm. The aspect ratio (some call it profile), 70 vs 75 in this case, is the height of the tire. So 70% of 215mm would be 151mm tall and 75 would be 162mm high ...

Re: 1964 Thunderbird wheel fitment
70-series tire is wider than 75-series. You'll probably run into more problems clearing skirts with a 215/70 vs OEM-size 215/75. Others with 70s may say otherwise. Thank you! This helped a great deal. I ended up chatting online with Summit - kind of a waste of time, dude was nasty, chatted with Goo...

Re: Rear suspension tips 64-66/EDIT Mike Eaton of Eaton Detroit Spring video technical info and mod mistakes
On my '63, just ahead of the rear wheels and inboard of the pinch welds on the sills is a flat plate, just over an inch wide and a few inches long. I used a ply wood packing strip between that and a jack stand. It was very solid. As a back up I also used a pair of jack stands under the cross member...

Not trying to be negative, but I truly think a good look in the SHOP MANUAL, would help you out. Look in section 17-1 pg 17.7 it explains lifting, Frame Contact points and such. It will give you the most supportive points on the car. Secondly using Acetone as a solvent to desolve ATF for a penetrat...

Re: 1964 Thunderbird wheel fitment
Hey Folks, Called up Tirs Discounters and they were kinda vague on the phone. Currently, I have p235-75-15 on the car - Would going down to p215-70-15 with these new rims help with the clearance for the skirts - or should I stay with the p235's? My only concern is two of the rims are 6 inches wide a...

Re: 1964 Thunderbird wheel fitment
Currently, the car has p235-75 -15 tires on it
Do I need to go down in size for these rims to 215 to fit under the skirts? I also bought a set of used skirts that I can grind on without grinding on the factory ones that came with my car.
Thanks guys!

Re: 1964 Thunderbird wheel fitment
I would really like to use the skirts if I can, also, what tires are your running with these rims, size and so on - I will probably order them off the web and have the local night guy do the switch. Did you have to use any wheel spacers or anything like that? I have a spare rim--this is the size in...
