Re: 55 tbird skirts

1957 Birdman. I am no expert on the wire wheels but I have seen any number of early T-Birds with the wire wheels and fender skirts. Hopefully someone with more experience can give a more definitive answer. Usually, it is a try and see approach to the spinners on wire wheels with fender skirts. ORIG...

Re: Front license plate mount

This post has gotten so far out of hand, even I cannot tolerate it, and have deleted several posts to maintain relevance. Every state has its own laws concerning front plates, and may be different for year of manufacture, historical, or regular issue plates. The original poster had his question corr...

Re: Regal roadster question please

I am only stating my opinion. I have had a 56, 2 57's, and currently have a 63SR. One 57 was modified, the others were stock restorations. In MY opinion, the modified are more fun and handle much better than the stock cars. Also, a Regal is a car that is more dependable and can drive and park somewh...

Re: Hardtop back glass and weather stripping assembly

Google "How to rope in automotive windshield or back window" and some U-Tube videos are available. This topic also can be found using our search function. On our Thunderbirds though, the trim needs to be installed into the rubber before installing in the top. Not difficult once you see a c...

This post has been split from Ward's addition, as he linked it to a post several years old and I felt a new thread would be of the best interest.

Re: Swing Bar is this 100 percent necessary?

Like many things in life, "100% necessary" is obviously not a real-life question, as that is an extremely high standard of accountability, and can be circumvented. Do you live on the grid with electricity or off the grid?? Think of it like this, Ford Motor Company and their huge staff of e...

Re: ‘57 gas tank “leak”/drip

The rubber hose is at the top of the steel tube which exits the tank. Has a clamp around it securing to the steel tube as shown in your picture. It may need snugged a bit tighter, maybe not. Only takes a minute to check. Venting is venting, regardless of a drilled cap or a manufactured vented cap, o...

Re: 57 Lower Dash - paint texture -w/photos

Your repaint looks very nice. That said, should you come across a truly original and unrestored dash, the finish appears to be more of a very fine wrinkle finish, similar to the old black typewriters I had to learn on. My 56, and one 57 had such finishes. I used DuPont vinyl dye to give it an awesom...

Re: Door handle angle

I would not worry about ergonomically more comfortable as these cars were built before ergonomics were ever considered. Besides what is more ergonomically comfortable to you, may not be to someone else's wrist position. Best to look online at pictures of correctly restored cars and position as other...

Re: ‘57 gas tank “leak”/drip

I have a couple of thoughts. 1) try to tighten the hose clamp on the rubber hose - Important! Just a little may make a difference. 2) you have indicated you have and are aware of a venting problem with the cap you are using. Why try to circumvent the obvious? ESPECIALLY when you have another gas cap...
