Re: Temperature Sender

Just guessing, as I don't know the history of your car, but is it possible that someone once stripped out the old fitting, then drilled and tapped for a non-stock replacement?

In any event, perhaps a photo and specs (thread size, etc) would help a parts house track down a duplicate.

Re: Column ground

I believe mine is attached at the other end to one of the bolts that holds the bellows to the firewall. As long as you ground it to the body somewhere, you should be fine.

Re: Values of the 4th Gen in your area

Hello. New guy here. Searching for an older car is hard but fun. I'm a 40 something male from the PNW. I'm looking for my first Thunderbird. Owned a 1968 Ford Falcon for about 4 years and was fun but not very pretty. I want something long and low. So here I am, looking for some opinions and guidanc...

Re: Swing away steering.

Also, this car won't stay in park. If it is on almost any grade at all, and the shifter is in the Park position, the car will move and I can hear the parking pawl ratcheting in the transmission. Does that mean that the steering column isn't adjusted correctly? Or is that potentially due more to a l...

Re: 66 radiator support fit

Good question! I’m not entirely sure, because there was a rebuild/swap in the PO’s paperwork. The intake manifold has a C6AE date stamp, and I believe I saw a 1965 code by the ground strap. It doesn’t help that I have a 65 production 66, expanding the possibilities. It’s a C6, not a CoM, which is i...

Re: 66 radiator support fit

Very interesting note about the fiberglass shroud, I didn't know there were other shroud types for a 66. My car doesn't have AC controls or vents, but it had an original compressor and AC p/s brackets installed when I got the car. Always wondered if it was an original AC car or if it was a botched ...

Re: Engine Bay before and after

I like the way you organized the harness wires and vacuum hoses. Did you use paint on the hood hinges? If so, how's it holding up?

Re: Radiators

I just bought a new hardware set for the radiator shield on my 65 and I am trying to put it back together however I can’t get it to fit correctly. The fan shroud shield thing wobbles and isn’t secured. When I tried to secure it, it is in the way of the fan blade and hits. Any advice Boy, a couple o...

Re: Transmission coolant lines

I purchased a new radiator and when i started it up the radiator coolant lines started leaking from where they attach to the radiator, as if the threads aren’t sealed fully. Any recommendations? I have tightened them but don’t want to over tighten and strip inside the radiator. Are you referring to...

Re: tank level issue!

On many of these cars, the Doors Ajar light is the first to go--and the hardest to get working again. So, a big plus! Without going out to my car to double check, I believe the non-operational light in your convenience group should blink when you turn on the four-way flashers--that switch labeled &q...

Re: tank level issue!

Gentlemen, I am a new proud owner of a 1964 T-bird. I have worked a lot on MOPAR's. There the tank sender unit is connected with one wire. On the T-bird there is a plug with three wires! Does anybody know what they are for? The gauge show zero gas in the tank and on mopars you can test the gauge by...

Re: Column ground

On my 64, there are two grounds for the column. One is a jumper wire screwed to the base of the column at one end and the firewall (if memory serves) on the other. Also, there's a jumper wire attached to both sides of the rag joint.

swillafew wrote: Tue May 05, 2020 8:28 pm This is helpful to me as I am trying to learn the basics. My car is a 1964, can I assume the layout is equivalent on the hose connection?
Yes, except that on a 64, the vacuum switch also has some electrical connections for the neutral safety switch.

Re: Rag Joint replacement on 64

losendos wrote: Tue May 05, 2020 9:38 pm Can you replace the rag joint without removing the steering wheel and sliding the steering shaft up?
Technically, yes, but I think it would involve removing the steering box . . . :-/
