Re: Transmission cooler on 1955 radiator

Here's my question: can the engine be rotated manually while it's in Park? Of course!! Think of it like this, does an engine stay running if shifted into Park????????? How the crankshaft is turned has no impact on the transmission as they are separate units. Even if the car has a manual transmissio...

Re: Transmission cooler on 1955 radiator

Without wanting to appear offensive, I definitely would question the capabilities of your "mechanic"!! I understand few are familiar with vintage vehicles, but it troubles me as if there were questions or concerns, why the "mechanic" did not investigate a bit further and take a q...

He stated: "It appears that I do not have an ignition resistor" 4 days after his original post. Thankfully he was shown a clear picture of what to look for posted by "Ward57" and is what a forum like this is all about. Helping each other. Had "fasteddie4007" possession ...

Moderator note: I cannot support "ward 57's" comments enough!! [b EVERYONE, PLEASE GET THE MANUALS FOR YOUR CAR!!!!!!!! [/b] Over the years we have had many posts that have continued for many days, even weeks, with both correct and incorrect answers to the question at hand. I let these po...

Re: Speedometer Way Off

After well over 60 years of use - perhaps you should consider sending the unit to have it cleaned, recalibrated and rebuilt? Google will find several speedometer rebuilding services.

You sound like my grandfather. He also beat into my head 'buy the best you can afford; you won't regret it'.

Sounds like someone I could enjoy a bit of bourbon with!!!!

Re: Leaf Spring Anti-Squeak Pads

I've been in this game since the mid 70's. Just from my limited experience, I have never been disappointed for buying the best I could afford. I don't care what the item was, whether I bought the very best or not, or if I had to save up money for a month or three. Just sayin', if the product turned ...

Re: 1955 major/minor brake eccentric cams

I still would like to see a couple of good close up pictures of this particular part - especially of the worn area that is causing all the problems.

Re: 1955 major/minor brake eccentric cams

Could you post a picture of the part and the worn area? It may be possible to weld and restore the original parts far easier than changing several other parts. Just a thought.

That is correct and entirely functional. That said, IF you have concerns about authenticity, compare those slotted head screws to original specs.

Re: Looking for a 55-57 Tbird

I'm 5' 11" and 170 and have had Little Birds since 1976. It will be "do-able" for you, but I always felt cramped unless driven with the top off. I found the convertible top to be a bit closer to my head as well. If you don't mind a tight-fitting car, they are indeed fun and attract a ...

Re: 1956 ECZ-A/ECZ-B Engine Block

[quoteNow, the question is how much bigger can I go to clean up the bores and fit a new piston?][/quote] Answer is very easy. Have the machine shop sonic test your block and you will know. No need to guess, speculate or say so and so bored his .250" and it ran awesome. Doesn't matter. Your bloc...

Re: Bumper Doughnuts

To add.... Ray Miller's book also shows pictures on page 56 and states: "Early exhaust "spinners" on the rear bumpers contained a highly polished and chromed doughnut-shaped inner sleeve. Later in the year, this was replaced with a less costly and simpler part." This "simple...
