Re: 55-57 Hardtop issues

After you adjust the plates on the rear deck, suggest checking the front and side latches for fitment before tightening the back plates.

Re: Manual Steering conversion

Thanks for all the replies. This has turned into quite a project  All of the power steering bits are removed. Now attaching (or attempting to) the manual steering parts. This is a huge favor to ask, but can anyone with a manual steering car tell me how far apart the holes in the manual steeri...

Re: Manual Steering conversion

Ok, got the parts needed to convert to manual steering. Does anyone know what kind of bolts are required to attach the idler arm bracket to the frame? There are two of them. I can find a special bolt kit for the power steering bracket but not the manual version.
Thanks.

Re: Manual Steering conversion

Thanks for the replies. I use skinny radial tires, so don't think there'd be a problem. May make one more attempt (ugh) to rebuiild the power steering control valve. Currently shooting red stream across garage floor when steering is tested. Seems to have many nuanced pieces that I didn't anticipate....

Manual Steering conversion

My car has an aftermarket power steering conversion that was done decades ago (by the looks of it). it is proving to be a maintenance headache & I'm tired of messing with it... Has anyone tried to convert power steering to manual? Think I could handle the steering, don't drive it that far. Think...

Re: fuel starvation

Thanks, I did order a new fuel flex line. Current one doesnt look bad but it's worth a try.
Re ethanol - what I've read indicates it might make vapor lock problems worse, in addition to being tough on gaskets/hoses.

Re: fuel starvation

Resurrecting this thread. My 56 has started similar behavior, seemingly starved for fuel after the car warms up. This happens under load, i.e. uphil. However the car dosn't just bog down, the rpms start fluctuating wildly. Usually when I pull over for a couple seconds, the car is back to normal as l...

Re: going from a 1961 to a 1956

The battery in my car drains quickly with the clock running (sorry if this was already mentioned). I use a remote battery disconnect switch whenever the car is parked. If its not working, would disconnect it anyway just to make sure there is no drain.

I have a Prestige top on my 56. You can add a chrome strip and swing bar, but I haven't. I just fold the top back & drive - no problems up to 70 mph. Note, I don't go that fast very far :)

Lift jack

Hi,
Has anyone tried using a Quick Jack or something of that nature to get their baby 'bird off the ground? Looks like it would work for both brakes and suspension rebuilds. Both are in my future...
Thanks!
