Re: door weather strip on a 56
I know on my '57 at the top front of the door dogleg there is a drain hole punched into the outside corner where the weatherstripping takes a 90 deg turn. I can't remember if they started doing that on the '56 as that was one of the problems cited on the '55 where water running down the door post wo...

Re: 1956 Hood Hot
Then why on my '57 the gauge rests on Cold when off or the engine is cold and moves up when warming up? It's always been that way in the 40+ years I've owned it. The shop manual states that with no voltage the gauge should read cold. If 3 volts are applied it should read 1/2 if 4 vols are applied it...

WOW ! their catalog price for a rebuild is over $200 + core charge. I'd double check and if confirmed, its a really good deal.

I think you are on the right track. The diaphrams were stiff and cracked.

"55 T-pot carbs are an animal in themselves. There are a couple of posts above with some very good information.

Re: Won't start, but did 1 month ago
If it did start the ignition seems to be working. I'm also thinking the diaphragm in the fuel pump cracked and needs to be rebuilt. Under no circumstances buy a new one. They all fail. As stated above if it has been sitting many years the rubber & seals are probably gone too. New rebuild kits ar...

Re: 1956 Hood Hot
I have to disagree with a couple of responses. No gauge ever made goes to max when de-energized. Goes beyond reason. I stand by my diagnosis.

Re: Brochures that came with a New Thunderbird
Is it all in one collection? Where did you find it? I don't believe it was something the average dealer would produce. But a memorabilia collector would. I'll bet a concours entrant would jump at that documentation.

Re: 1956 Hood Hot
It sounds like the gauge is bad. It should drop to cold with the key off. If you disconnect the wire to the gauge and it stays on hot, then the internals are fried. I'm not sure of the whole working but I think there is a small spring that if shorted or broken could cause something like that. Hills ...

Re: 1956 Hood Hot
So you are saying that with the key off the gauge reads hot but when you turn the ignition off it goes to cold & doesn't move?

Re: PS Control Valve Ball Stud Stuck on Pitman Arm
if you have an impact drill hammer you can get the proper attachment and put it on hammer only may be the trick. You can sometimes find them at pawn shops for a good deal on something you may use occasionally But have it in your tool inventory if you need to set anchors in concrete. Part of the 'hon...

Re: 1956 Hood Hot
I meant to say it protrudes from the 'head' & block in a triangle shape not the manifold to head gasket.

Re: 1956 Hood Hot
I can't reference the source at the moment but often this has been caused by the head gaskets not installed properly. there is a tell tale tab that I think protrudes from the front top of the manifold. At least that's where mine is. If the gasket is not installed properly it blocks some of the coola...

Re: Question about 1956 Color Code
Interesting, It's pretty close to my original coral sand but it had more pink in it. Not a manly color. But the interior & top were the colonial white.
