Air Cleaner
As I understand it, there are 2 different styles of air cleaners for 1965. The vast majority have the intake tube, large enough to get a hand around it for lifting it off and another that's the same with an additional tube that connects to the right valve cover. I've been told the second one has to ...

Fluids & Hardware
I was told to use type "F" Tranny fluid in the Tranny and the power steering unit. DO NOT use Dexron-Mercron as it causes seals to go and it will leak. I say this from experience. License plate mounting screws are available in any auto parts store. If they don't have them, find another sto...

Distress Call
I agree with Vince. Your best bet is to go to the VTCI home page, scroll down on "welcome" to chapter clubs, then click on the North Central Region. You'll find the home page for Chicagoland Thunderbirds. Many knowledgeable people. Good Luck!

This may sound like an easy out, but I have found that the exhaust system can be "made to order" at my local Midas and at a reasonable cost. I brought in an El Camino once and instructed them to make it "sound like a boat on the river" when at idle. They did it and, as I recall, ...

Convertible Switch Replacement
I had John Draxler, of the Thunderbird Ranch, intall them in my 65 convertible and give the entire system an A+.
It was about 4 maybe 5 years ago and I've had no problems since.
Well worth the money. I even donated the original switches and relays to him as I don't want them anymore.

Fuel Stabilizer
Maybe I've been asking for trouble but I have never added anything to the fuel for storage. I park the T-birds with a full tank of Amoco Ultimate for the winters and try to burn at least 1 tank per year. I have had one sit for 3 years of not ever being started and when I finally did get back to it, ...

The tech session was about the various options one could do with their car and the approximate costs. The reverb unit was an extremely popular after-market item in the late 50s and into the 60s. You needed 2 speakers, normally 1 front & a rear speaker. The rear speaker would be delayed from the ...

The tech sessions were on Friday. There were 6 sessions, scheduled each hour for 50 minutes each. The first one at 9 AM, was with John Draxler in the parking lot. He used Joe Wishy's '66 convertible that the trunk wouldn't open. John actually conducted the first 2 sessions. John Colehour learned fro...

OK...The place is called S/M Electro Tech, located in Blaine, MN. They have a website: www.turnswitch.com. The phone # (Toll Free!) is 877-780-2861. If you do contact them, mention my name. I do not get any referral priveleges but it might help in that he spent a couple of hours at our convention co...

There's a place not far from me (20 miles?) called S/M Electro-Tech in Blaine, Minnesota. He's a regular advertiser in Old Cars Weekly. He did a tech session on radios and sound systems at the 2003 VTCI north central regional. It seemed like a good idea to convert my original radio. So far, no compl...

I was not happy with the Custom Auto Sound in my 65 convertible either. I had the original AM radio redone. It is now AM-FM stereo with jacks in the back to plug in a CD player or cassette player. It sounds great and will not lose a modification point. The cost to convert the radio was about $400.
