Re: Refreshing the 390 FE

My thoughts are 2 fold. 1) when you installed the lifters, which were new and dry, did you oil soak them for a day and allow them to fill and pump them up? 2) did you apply cam lobe friction paste (break in lube) which is why we now use ZDDP zinc to prevent cam lobe wear? Normally you never swap lif...

Re: 55 Fuel Tank

I think if you check the tanks are made in Quebec and are galvanized (tinned).
Not familiar with them in Stainless, but very possible.

Re: 55 Fuel Tank

Not up to speed on Baby Birds, not my forte.
A good manufacturer of replacement fuel tanks, is SPECTRA INDUSTRIES out of Quebec, Canada. I know they produce "tinned" tanks for the 61 thru 66 cars.
Contact them and see what they can do.

Re: 64 thunderbird carb spacer

Any thing is possible, experiment.
The tube is thin wall, and with its corrosion and failure at the casting, you may open a hornets nest and find it is failing else where.
Nothing ventured nothing gained, give it a try

Re: 64 thunderbird carb spacer

The front and rear hose nipple is all one piece of tubing formed in a C shape and is cast into the Aluminimummumum carb spacer block. The tube does a path around the base, to provide a full heat transfer If your unit is leaking at the nipples, it has probly pin holed else ware within the block, and ...

Re: Ignition Key won't turn

Jim Porter stated that he lubricated the tumblers and got them to work. This will be a short lived repair, as the WD40 will dry out. Ì proposed the repin while it is still possible. To answer your question, in my opinion, once the tumblers fail, the ability to remove the cylinder from the ignition s...

Re: Ignition Key won't turn

Why not simply follow the Shop Manual instructions and remove the ignition tumbler set and take it to a locksmiths shop and have him repin the unit, with new slide pins. It can even be the original keyway, so it can still match the door lock tumblers. It is far easier and cheaper than having to buy ...

Re: Bond and the movies.

Up here in the Great White North, there is a rolling showing of Bond movies every few weeks. From the VERY first Casino Royal with David Niven to the most current.
Sad to hear the next Bond is delayed another year due to the Vivid.

Re: Bond and the movies.

Think it was a yellow 64 that Felix was riding shot gun. A Navy or Black Lincoln hard top that OddJob was driving. GOLDFINGER The 65 was driven by No. 2 just before he met the Spectra Board in THUNDERBALL, AND you nailed the Diamonds car and the two ? gentlemen. Bond got his butt kicked by Thumper a...

Bond and the movies.

Bond James Bond Sir Sean Connery passes on. To think, it was James Bond and associated actors who portrayed the Ford THUNDERBIRD, Lincoln, Falcon, and Mustang, in such movies as THUNDERBALL, Gold Finger, and Diamonds Are Forever. We got to see a 64 Bird a 65 Bird, a 65 Lincoln and Falcon, plus a ful...

Great to see Andrew. Each of us, has our unique need and abilities to repair, remake, improve the existing 50 odd year old technology. Your efforts on designing and building the retro fit RELAY packages, for the 64/66 Birds convertable top relays, that do not need any modification to the car wiring ...

Re: Overheating at idle

Its hard to tell from photos and my old eyes, but I can see the blade pitch is correct, meaning it is pulling air thru the rad. But FOR SURE the fan spacer is not true to a 64 car. It also looks since the spacer is incorrect that it is also of a wrong length, leaving the fan insuffiently inserted in...
