Re: High Idle speed

WHen I had a corvair, with two carbs, there was some special gizmo that you put on top of each carb to measure airflow so you could balance the airflow thru them.

I think you might be talking about a Unisyn.

Re: Thunderbird Tri-power date codes

I have two set ups.
The carbs are 202 date code c2's and are original to the no-date manifold.
There is an N on this manifold.
The story is they came from the factory on a car but it could have been dealer installed. I tried really hard to track the engine but came up a year too late. It's in a ...

Re: Fog Light Kit Assembly

ICON - thanks - yes that is the one. Actually two trips across the country - the first was shortly after I bought it and the second after the restoration.. Haven't been doing any long trips lately, but use it a lot locally. It has a few pint chips though.

Nice bird Paul, Love the color too. Is ...

Re: Fog Light Kit Assembly

There is a few stories out there on the reason for the lights. The one I have heard most often is Canada required the.lights. I have no facts to back that up. I also, heard that some countries in Europe required them.

Thanks for the compliment

I think that looks GREAT! the setback in all that ...

Re: Engine timings, Intial, Advance and Engine

The power stroke comes after the compression stroke.

The key thing here is the piston is at TDC, so the compression stroke has finished, and the power stroke has not started yet.

The final step of rotating the distributor housing until the points start to open advances the timing BTDC which will ...

Re: Engine timings, Intial, Advance and Engine

Ok, so I pulled out my 1966 shop manual and found the passage on 9-24 group 9, section 3 removal and installation.

I don’t see anything here about the exhaust stroke. It says: “rotate the crankshaft until #1 piston is on TDC (after compression stroke). Align with TDC on the ignition pointer ...

There are answers available. When you are ready to ask a question, let me know.

jtschug, your reply is getting somewhat personal, the question has been asked several times, don't put it on me if you cannot read or read the question. The question I did asked would be generic to the FE 390 in ...

Ross,
Correct, down is open.
I installed spacers in both the 57 and 55 when restored. No problems.

Who knows what position the flap is in. It's not making any noise. I had one go bad on a different car and it was rattling inside the pipes. I wanted to get rid of it but never got ...

Re: Engine timings, Intial, Advance and Engine

What is your question?

The only thing which is adjustable without changing parts is the initial timing. Spark timing advance is controlled by the advance mechanisms inside the distributor.

As far as "performance" goes, what do you want to know about "performance"?

So many questions, so few ...

Re: Proper fuel level in glass filter

I just wedged a small piece of steel against the lever arm to hold the heat riser valve open on our '57. I like the way the engine runs both during warm-up and at temperature.

Apparently the thermostatic coil on the valve has lost some of its strength. The valve would almost close at idle and ...
