Re: defrost vents for dash replacement?
No you're not imagining it. https://www.vintagethunderbirdclub.net/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?p=125596 When I took my dash apart, I had this wire mesh between the pad and frame. There were some plastic clips that held them in place, but again fit between the pad and frame (if I recall correctly). It's bee...

defrost vents for dash replacement?
Decided to finally get off my butt and finish the dash I removed 2 years from my '62. From what I recall back then, the vents just had some wire mesh somewhat held in place my a few plastic pieces that crumbled apart when I disassembled it. Can't find much online, not sure what to do. Has anyone a s...

Re: Dash defrost vent caps
Has anyone learned anything more about this? I'm looking for ways to improve what I consider an unfinished look to the vents in my new '62 dash. Was contemplating custom fabrication for something just like this before I found this post.

Re: Help with dash
Does the end cap you took off your car / dash look That's the thing, mine had no caps or end plates. The only thing on the sides was a piece of carpet shaped like these end plates . Your door panels do look like mine, though with neater lines. tbirdhq did say I'd probably need to replace the door p...

Re: Help with dash
I sent an email to cspracing, their website states it fits 61-62 and makes no mention of cutting the dash to make it fit like tbirdhq does. I called tbirdhq and mine is a later '62 model (october) and he said would need trimming as well as the end plates and pad ends. Though he was uncertain how the...

Re: Help with dash
I still have a piece of the old one, putting them side by side the new one is clearly shorter by several inches. I think I need to contact tbirdhq directly. (which I've noticed their prices have increased about 30% since spring!) Correction, everything I bought came from tbirdhq except this dash, wh...

Re: Help with dash
I attached some pictures of the corners of where the door would meet the dash. I wish I took more pics before ripping it out, didn't think I'd have this much trouble.

Help with dash
Earlier this year, I removed my dash from my '62 and bought a replacement pad from tbirdhq. I just now got around to cleaning up the old frame and went to put the new dash pad on and am running into issues. The ends don't even come close to fitting the frame. Their website says something about needi...

Re: questions on dash replacement
That carpet is the correct shape . Are the ends under it ? What you see in the pic is what I had. If there was suppose to be something else under those floppy ends I don't have anything. I'll look in my garage just to double check though. What does it staple to underneath? If it's like the tack str...

Re: questions on dash replacement
Thanks Alan, that helps. I'm looking buying this one here: https://www.tbirdhq.com/pc_product_detail.asp?key=49D9ED8050EF47A8A8A47A8DF09CD3EA . I've bought all my interior stuff from them already. I can't tell if its just the pad, or if the vinyl is already glued to it. Also unsure if the mesh vents...

questions on dash replacement
I finally got the dash removed from my '62, talk about a headache. Putting it back is going to be fun... (lot more wires than I expected for something in 62) The dash has several cracks in it and the vinyl is hard with wrinkles so I'm looking to replace it. Looking for a replacement has brought up a...

Re: replacement steering wheel?
Would could I get a custom resized wheel? If I could keep the original look but shave 2" off the diameter so I can fit under it that'd be great.
