Re: Unmarked rocker arms

"If your engine is stock, the rocker arms are in good shape, and you have no trouble adjusting them, I wouldn't be too concerned about the ratio".

I would be, due to the unbalanced 7+% difference in flow area between the two heads.

Re: Vinyl Porthole Top

That looks exactly like the vinyl top that was on my 55 when I bought it in 1965.
It has never bothered me that it wasn't original.

Re: Hood art

"The chrome headlight eyebrows were NEVER an option on the Thunderbird".

This memory is from back in the day. I believe the first 14 Thunderbirds had them.

Re: Self Adjusting Brakes

Just use a hand drill with a 5 inch sanding disc. 80 grit is quick.

Re: Self Adjusting Brakes

"t looked like you were stating that you had problems finding the 2.5” thin washer. Now that I re-read it you mean two 1/2” thin washers, not a 2 1/2” washer!" You read it right the first time. I have been unable to find 2.5" diameter washers of the proper thickness. However, you can ...

Re: Self Adjusting Brakes

The conversion kits are available at NAPA stores and are quite reasonably priced ($20-$25).
The thinner washer is required to allow room for the second spring to fit on the post.

"Pride goeth before a fall."

Not pride, just 60 some odd years of experience working on this stuff. It ain't difficult.

Re: Shifter question

I think I may have more confidence in my mechanical ability than you do. :-) Been working on automobiles, airplanes, and boats for over sixty years now. So far, I haven't run in to anything I can't do. That said, I sometimes elect to have work done. My time is better spent on my day job, though mess...

Re: Shifter question

"TCI should have an AOD shift kit that will allow holding 2nd without having to manually shift back into low". Thanks for the info. What's the issue with shifting back into Low? I got used to doing that in 1965. Never saw a problem with it. I'm comfortable with modifying mechanical devices...

Re: Shifter question

For me, it was very desirable with my 55 Fordomatic. It allowed the two speed T-Bird selector to access all three gears at will.

I do not know if it will work with a C4.
