Re: Anyone have a spring compressor??

Yes I bought and installed insulators for top and bottom of both sides. Figured it'd be silly to do all that and not replace the petrified rubber while I was there. As far as evidence of wear, there was nothing visible on the springs themselves. In fact, you'd really never know there was anything wr...

Re: Anyone have a spring compressor??

I ended up modifying the plate I had so it couldn't slip any longer, and I'm excited to say I've finally had some forward progress!!! Just the driver's side is left and I'll finally be finished. Next on the to-do list: exhaust manifolds...................... ugh........................ Bolts can't b...

Anyone have a spring compressor??

Been working on the front suspension of my '65 hardtop. I have my old, worn put coil springs removed, and have two brand new coils to put in. I attempted to build myself a spring compressor designed after the Moog kit seen posted here and there on this forum. I used 1" ACME rod with round steel...

Re: Reman Brake Booster - High Initial Force Required

I experienced this when I installed a universal booster along with a dual pot master cylinder. Felt almost like it was sticking at the very top. I ended up replacing the master cylinder because it only got worse as the days turned to months. The problem disappeared after that. I've since replaced ev...

Re: A/C Only Blows 58 Degrees - Why?

Electric fans are used in modern cars to save gas, they are not better at moving air than mechanical fans, and they should come with an alternator upgrade and a dedicated power circuit, including circuit protection. Usually the fan has two speeds, one is thermostatically controlled, and then high-s...

Re: A/C Only Blows 58 Degrees - Why?

You've done a lot of work on this, and re-reading the posts I'm a bit confused as to what you finished up with and what was changed. Could you post a simple list of the final setup? Sure! Yeah I should have listed what I accomplished over the weekend. I installed the new 14x25.5 condenser along wit...

Re: A/C Only Blows 58 Degrees - Why?

Does your car have a fan shroud with a 7 blade clutch fan? It does have a fan shroud, and it also has the rubber seals ahead of the radiator on either side. However, I have a 3,000 CFM 18" (18? Or 16? I can't remember... It fills up the radiator really well) electric fan. It's thermostatically...

Re: A/C Only Blows 58 Degrees - Why?

Alright I've got everything installed. I've removed the pusher fan and gotten everything evacuated and recharged. I now get temperatures of 50 degrees at idle and 40 degrees at 60 mph. That's a huge win for me!

Re: A/C Only Blows 58 Degrees - Why?

That's pretty simple to do. In the meantime, could it possibly be that the expansion valve is wrong? I have seen other valves with that same bulb at the end as my old one. Since the one I have is just coiled, perhaps it's meant for a different application? I feel like that's a stretch, but hell... I...

Re: A/C Only Blows 58 Degrees - Why?

The aluminum tape acts as more of a reflector rather than an insulator in this case. I mainly don't want the expansion valve directly exposed to the heat radiating off of the rear of the engine. Think of it in similar terms as the thin aluminum plate that acts as a heat shield over top of a modern e...

Re: A/C Only Blows 58 Degrees - Why?

I just saw this from one of your other posts remove your evaporator core and have your local AC shop solder enough copper tubing to the ends to have the AC line connections and expansion valve just on the other side of the firewall directly behind the engine. I promise that not only does this absol...

Re: A/C Only Blows 58 Degrees - Why?

Superheat and subcooling was a concept that I, until you guys mentioned it, had no idea about. I think understanding and applying it in this case is actually quite critical once I read up on it. I think it is the key to getting the correct charge in my specific system. I just made my purchase. I sho...

Re: A/C Only Blows 58 Degrees - Why?

Hey thanks you guys for all your input thus far. It really does help to bounce ideas and thoughts off other people. I certainly don't know very much in this area. So for now, my plan will be as follows: I am going to buy and install a larger condenser. This will also give me the opportunity to insta...
