Re: Correct size air filter

Here's a photo of the rubber seal on the 1964 air cleaner body. It's pretty common for this to be missing after 60 years.

Also including a photo of a 1965/66 air cleaner lid. The rubber seal on these air cleaners was located on the underside of the lid in the recess at its perimeter.

Re: A "chugga chugga" sound and then radiator fluid on the ground

The radiator supply tank should be full when the engine is cold with the fluid level being 1" below the filler neck - as specified in the shop manual. If you don't see coolant in the supply tank when the engine is cold, you're likely running under the factory specified amount - approximately 20...

Re: Radiator ID info

Buddy, C6SE-8005 is the engineering number of your radiator. A simplified breakdown of the FoMoCo parts numbering system is as follows; C = decade of the 1960s, 1960 - 1969 6 = year in that decade - 1966. S = "Thunderbird" for the model line. E = engine parts. 8005 = radiators. At a glance...

Re: power steering belt to radiator clearance

The clearance between the power steering belt and lower radiator hose should be at least 1/2" at their closest proximity. I can easily fit my finger between the two. You didn't say what model year you have. Does your Thunderbird have A/C? '65/'66 Thunderbirds without A/C utilized a cylindrical ...

Re: 1966 deluxe wheel cover color

Hi Terry, I don't think you highjacked this thread at all. We started out talking about '66 Deluxe wheel covers, but this is the '64 - '66 section of the forums, so I think discussing any aspect of the original wheel covers for all three years would be fair game! Those black vinyl appliques are cert...

Re: 1966 deluxe wheel cover color

3D printing huh? Never occurred to me. Hmmmmmm. That's a technology that is foreign to this 'old school ' guy! If somebody could design an accurate, 3-dimensional plastic mask for these wheel covers, it would be a real boone to those wanting to re-paint the painted features on them. Masking them off...

Re: 1966 deluxe wheel cover color

Hey Terry, Masking those black painted accents on the '64 wheel covers is even more difficult than those 'vanes' found on the '65 & '66 parts. I can just imagine what a chore that was. I've blended in some small spots of chipping on those satin black painted areas on the '64 wheel covers in the ...

Re: 1966 deluxe wheel cover color

Rt146, If I understand your question, the center area on my wheel cover in the photo is notably darker not due to any shadows, but because the Charcoal metallic paint that Ford used on them is considerably darker than Argent Silver. Ford did NOT use Argent paint on these wheel covers. As I mentioned...

Re: 1966 deluxe wheel cover color

Sorry, but Argent is definitely far too silver in color. That is not the correct paint. Charcoal metallic or Charcoal Gray is what it's usually referred to as. I agree with Alan, it was the same paint used in the recesses of the Styled Steel Wheels on the first- & second-generation Mustangs. Yes...

Re: Interpretation on Ford Corporate Blue

Hi gnorwood2,
By the way, may I ask what your first name is to put this on a little more personal level? Obviously, my name is Scott.
Just wanted to let you know I replied to this question in your other post titled "OEM or Concourse Heater Hoses".

Re: OEM or Concours Heater Hoses

I haven't visited the forums in quite a while and this morning out of the blue I decided to check them out and found your question. I actually came down with some unknown variant of COVID on Dec 23rd and I'm still dealing with some congestion and coughing. Sadly, I missed all of our family Christmas...

Alan, I don't think I've referred back to those articles since we did them. Honestly, as I was reading your last post, I realized I'd forgotten some of the information we included in those articles. For a guy who can't recall what I had for dinner last night, I guess that shouldn't surprise me! :???...

Re: Size of paper ID tag on the radiator surge tank - '66

The diagram of the aluminum tag I posted comes from the '66 Thunderbird Shop Manual. The diagram is just like the aluminum ID tag on my 390 engine and no, there is no assembly plant designation on my tag. To my knowledge, there was no engine assembly plant code found on the aluminum engine ID tags i...
