Re: Unknown Button Center Console

Alan:
Inside the front cover - "First Printing © 1963 Ford Motor Company" "Reprinted with Ford Motor Company's Permission"
On the back cover - "Form 7513-64"

Hope this helps.

Re: Unknown Button Center Console

Here's the operating instructions for the automatic speed control, along with the cover page from my reprint of the 1964 "Registered Owner's Manual". I don't have the speed control but kinda wish I did.... very nice!

Re: 66’ Rear brake auto adjuster assembly

Bird Nest is one supplier that sells the correct rear brake cables (they're supposed to fit '61 to '66 rear brakes and they fit my '64). According to the '64 manual, under "Brake Shoes and Adjusting Screw - Installation", the length is 11-1/8" +/- 1/64" from the inside of the hoo...

Re: Dual master cylinder bore size

Thanks for your input - I recall that the push rod stroke I measured for this MC is a hair longer than for the old MC and I couldn't get any more length out of my push rod adjustment. As you said, a small adjustment might make a big difference, so I'll have to try to sort out a way of extending it s...

Re: Brake booster shortages

I had a question on your Wilwood MC setup, which I've posted in the Modified forum.

Thanks in advance for any info or advice you can give.

Re: Dual master cylinder bore size

So, I've got the car out a couple times with this Wilwood setup, and I definitely do not have enough boost. The first half of the pedal travel is great, and it slows down much faster than it did with drum brakes, but then it seems to just hit a wall and the next part of pedal travel is like manual ...

Re: Brake booster shortages

Yours does look like a '61-'64 small Midland booster - I have a rebuilt one in my '64 MY. If replacing your booster with the same style is still an option for you, Bird Nest now sells new reproductions of it (but maybe you're already aware of this). Their website says that they have them in stock. h...

Re: Disc Brake Conversion

Just to add a clarification... Most disc/drum master cylinders have a built-in residual pressure valve inside the drum circuit outlet port. There's lots of information out there on how to check for this (I used the blunt end of a small drill bit to probe each port). If you're going to do the convers...

Re: The Disc Brake blog, 2023 Edition

Many thanks for your update and for your excellent installation guide. The guide was one of the main reasons that I chose the ACC front disc conversion kit, which I purchased on Ebay through tomsclassic in 2020. The kit is advertised as a “1961, 1962, 1963, 1964 Ford Thunderbird Front Disc Brake Con...

Re: 1964 brake hub stud size

Hi - I had the same problem when I replaced the front drums on my '64. I found some Tapco long-barrel studs at Thunderbird Headquarters that worked well. The part (sku) number is B1107A. The dimensions of the lugs are 1/2"- 20 X 1-11/16". Good luck!

Re: 65 shift linkage adjustment

I'm not familiar with shift linkage adjustments, so others might want to chime in, but maybe the shift tube bushing (or lack thereof) at the bottom end of the steering column tube is part of the problem. I don't see any mention of it in this thread and I'm wondering if you've checked to see that it'...

Re: Axle Shaft Compatibility

Just after I got the car the right rear seal started leaking (maybe because of the bent axle flange?) and I had a garage replace the seal. They reported that the differential gear oil was similar to yours - like tar. They cleaned and vacuumed out what they could, refilled it, and then I took the car...

Re: Axle Shaft Compatibility

Pictures comparing a 28-spline and 31-spline axle end would be helpful for the '64-'66 OFS revisions. Would also be good to know if there are any external markings, paint daubs, stamped letters/numbers on the axle flange or other part of the axle or ? that help to ID application. I managed to repla...

Hi Alan - I know there is a a part number stamped on the '64 axle flange. I'll send pictures and information when I do the change over, although it might not happen until next spring.
