Re: 56 Continental kit-bumper alignment

I had the same issue after changing to radials. The radials were a little larger than the bias ply they replaced and the bumper scraped the painted tire cover when tilted back. This wasn't a problem with the old tires. I used the chrome plastic edging (as shown in a previous response) on the bumper....

Re: Driver side floor condensation

If you taste this moisture, is it sweet? That would indicate a coolant leak.

Re: 55 virgin drive.! Floor hot, heats up when parked

Regarding radiated exhaust heat thru the floor. Someone on the TBird forum mentioned an exhaust supplier who puts the mufflers nearer the rear of the car, not directly under the seats. Perhaps where the resonators are normally located?

Every victory is great! Did you ground the new flasher? Many folks here say they need to be.

Re: 55 ignition not working on start

You can rebuild the solenoid very easily. There are NOS and new rebuild kits available. These kits usually include a new plunger, cap and contacts, which are the parts that normally fail. However, if the windings are fried you'll need a whole new solenoid.

Re: New member hi to all and info on my '57...

WOW Sounds like most of these modifications are ones that many of the guys here want to / have made ... radial tires, disc brakes, EFI, alum rad and electric fan ... it's ready to roll!!. Good luck with the certification, I hear some of the European MOT's are real sticklers.

Sounds like a weak battery to me. Have you jumped a known good battery, say from your daily driver?

Re: Rummaging through the trunk

What I used to do to assist in re-aligning the trunk or hood on my 'less cars' (not the TBird or Caddy) is drill one 1/8" hole thru each hinge bracket and inside lid panel. When reinstalling, a couple of 1/8" drill blanks gets it near perfect.

Re: Rummaging through the trunk

On Ford products, the resistance of a sender unit increases as the fuel level drops (GM is opposite). Empty you should probably see something like 75 ohms. A full tank should show much less ... I'm guessing 5 ohms. Note: These numbers may not be 100% accurate, but you get the idea. I would check gro...

Re: No Spark

Excellent points. If it turns out that this wire is causing the problem, be sure to replace it with one that has many fine strands inside, as this allows the wire flex more easily without breaking.

Re: Car cover

It sort of depends on whether it's going to be stored inside or out ... but hopefully it's INSIDE for such a beaut!! I use a 100% brushed cotton fitted cover for winter storage. I clean the car thoroughly before hand as the cotton will pick up any grit and could scratch the paint .. your black paint...

Re: Brake fluid change

I've heard from others that you may have to change the brake light pressure switch to a mechanical one. They say DOT5 may be corrosive to the original switch and the switch may not recognized the reduced viscosity. Whatever the reason, a mechanical switch would be more reliable and may be a good upg...
