Re: dead battery

The charging system appears to be working. You may have a power drain happening when the car is not running and the ignition is off. Try disconnecting the plus battery clamp from the battery terminal, then connect an ammeter between the two. If it registers current flow, then you have a power drain ...

Re: 65 thunderbird still has power after shut off

On my '64, the electric windows and blower work when the ignition is off. I've always assumed that's the way it's supposed to be, but maybe not?

Re: 1966 Bird shift jump

6T6-T , if your car really will hop out of Park and into Reverse by itself, you should also consider disabling the vacuum e brake release until you get the shifter mechanism fixed. That ensures the e brake stays set until you manually release it. And, following Alan's recommendation to slide the st...

Re: rebuild or replace

Try bleeding the brakes and see if that improves the pedal action. And check to make sure the cap on the reservoir is sealing; under normal operation, brake fluid surges back into the reservoir and if it is leaking out of the cap, the seal is probably bad or the cap isn't tight.

Look further up above the parking brake and behind the dashboard. It's a can shaped relay mounted on the firewall.

Re: Drivers door lower hinge replacement

To add to this, I opened the door wide enough to get in and to access the hinge. Used a floor jack under the bottom end of the door so I could move the door up, down or sideways to position the replacement hinge ('69 Galaxie) or the replacement bushings and pin ('90 Mustang). Tied the top of the doo...

Re: Drivers door lower hinge replacement

It is probably the hinge pin bushing. An inexpensive repair but quite a bit of work. You need to support the door, then remove the hinge, drive out the pin and bushings then install new. Then reinstall the hinge and get the door lined up. Not a difficult job, but there are a lot of pitfalls. The pi...

Re: New Owner Questions

Safety first. With a car this old and this heavy, make sure the brakes work correctly, the shifter is positive, Park and the emergency brake work, and the car tracks straight down the road. Weird clunks and noises should be investigated and resolved. If you can, get the car up on a lift and check ou...

Re: Why did/would you choose a Flairbird over a Bulletbird?

It was a rainy Friday night at the Piano bar, maybe too many Old Fashions Cocktails, it was then I spotted her from across the bar, the seductive look of her sculpture body, sold me. Sure, she looked like she was fast and all the fellas in the bar wanted her, but she left them in the dust when she ...

Re: Dual master cylinder recommendations? Screw type booster

I bought a dual master a while back from ABS Power Brake that's designed to clear the brace. I haven't installed it yet. Here's their web address:

Re: timing keeps advancing

Yes. Once the cap is off and the Pertronix is removed, I believe there will be a base plate that will have to be removed to see the centrifugal advance mechanism. Should be able to tell then if the mechanism is sticking. Maybe some penetrating oil will be enough to free up the mechanism if stuck. BT...

Re: Accelerator Linkage Rod Length for Holley 4160 Carb Swap?

If you can, find an adjustable rod. One of the adjustments you can make is to ensure that when the gas pedal is pressed to the floor, the carb is at wide open throttle (WOT).
