Re: identification of heater circuit fitting on inlet manifold

That would make sense. The crusty one did indeed come with a teapot on it, the ECZ had an autolite 4100 from 1966 on it so was a later performance mod......

identification of heater circuit fitting on inlet manifold

Hi I have just painted my inlet manifold and found a rusty fitting, so decided to swap it out for a similar item off my other intake. The two fittings are the same but different. The rusty one is a plain elbow whilst the one off what is probably a more original engine has what appears to be a thermo...

Anyone done an EFI conversion on a 55?

Hi I'm part way through a full rebuild of my 55 T-bird and am going for an aftermarket EFI along with some other engine mods. Has anyone done this and got any advice? I have the overdrive manual transmission which has a kick down, which shorts out the coil to allow a momentary loss of power, to allo...

292 engine numbers - just out of interest

Hi I have two 292 Y blocks, one from a 55 t-bird with manual OD transmission and one from a 55 t-bird auto. I'm in the middle of a rebuild and have noticed a couple of numbers stamped (not cast) on the front of the top of the blocks just in front of the valley cover gasket mounting surface. One read...

Power steering retro fit

Hi All My 55 has unassisted steering at the moment, but I have just bought an engine that came complete with a freshly reconditioned power steering pump and a slightly leaky steering ram. Does anyone know if I can swap over to power steering with these parts and a few purchased extras. If so, which ...

Re: Mechanical brake light switch

From experience on my 55, the brake lights come off the lighting switch through the bulkhead to the brake line pressure sensor switch (green) back through the bulkhead to a connector block (green), up the steering column to the indicator switch (green), comes back down the steering column as two wir...

Re: Alernate Serial Number Locations

Hi I have the body off the chassis on my 55 at the moment. Its been blasted and epoxy coated so is squeaky clean. Its at the body shop at the moment so I can't inspect it right away, but I do have a few photos. From the photos, I can see that there is a chassis number stamped on the top of the rearm...

Re: Heads compatibility

Yep, after a little investigation, it is likely to be a 272 with low compression ration, so not compatible or desirable. The other engine I have up me sleeve is a 292 out of a 55 Thunderbird Auto. Mine is a 3 speed manual with overdrive. By my reckoning, these heads will be the higher compression ra...

Heads compatibility

Hi All

Still trying to solve my cracked heads issue.....

I have now found a second y block motor for sale in the UK out of a 56 F110 truck.

Does anyone know if the heads on this would be compatible with the Y-block in my late 55 thunderbird which i believe to be the original unit....

Thanks

Cylinder head cracks

HI All So I had a bit of a set back with the project a while back when my engine builder found 2 minute cracks in my heads under the valve seats, one on each head. After having a minor meltdown, I managed miraculously to find another 55 engine in the UK that the owner is willing to part with. This a...

Gearbox colour

Hi All I am getting to the exciting bit of my refurb and am starting to paint things and put them back together. My question is, on my 1955, what colour should my engine/gearbox combo be? The engine was the orange/red and the gearbox shows some signs of have been this colour as well previously. What...

Re: 1955 T Bird Camshaft identification

Hi Chaps

Thanks for advice. I have been to John Mummert and bought a forged engine kit with I beam rods, performance cam, performance pushrods and springs. Hoping to add a pair of his heads to the build when they are available next year.....
