why the dashpot?

Please forgive my ignorance, but what is the function of the carb dashpot?

(on my ‘65, 390, CruiseOMatic)

Perhaps to “soften” deceleration? Doesn’t the torque converter do that?

Quarantined minds want to know.....

Re: 1965 gas gauge

The blinking light may be indicative of normal operation of the
5 volt power supply for instruments (which functions as an interrupter).

What does your indicator do on opposite terminal of gas gauge?

Re: suitable gas & oil, etc.?

FWIW - I use 5w30 oil with zinc additive.

Unleaded fuel seems OK in my 390 showing 135k miles.

BillD,

I think I have a set of bezels; not perfect, but not bad.
I’ll get home later today and can send pics if you’d like.

Re: Location of stop light relay in 1965 convertible?

Before you get into relay, have you checked the switch?

Shop manual shows proper adjustment/clearance.

Just a thought.

Re: oil type

Just outta curiosity - why the -40W? Shop manual suggests 10-30W. My understanding of multi-vis oils goes like this: at higher temps, a 30W is "easier to pump/flows more easily" (not a technical term) then a 40W. This might suggest that - at higher temps - a 30W can refill the lifters faster then a ...

Re: Values of the 4th Gen in your area

FWIW: I’m in MN. Bought my ‘65 two years ago (in Omaha) for $8800. Now shows 130K miles. Not concours, but clean and straight; no rust. I’ve replaced several parts (the usual suspects) - shifter/steering column issues, master cylinder, brake lines and hoses, water pump, front end parts and sway bar,...

Re: '65 console compartment latch mechanism

Lee, Thank you very much for your help. Just to confirm - when the claw is down/aft, does it appear that the upper half (of the claw) would be above the loop? The reason I ask - the top/forward half of my claw is significantly shorter than bottom half. Are yours approximately the same length? Again,...

Re: '65 console compartment latch mechanism

I still don’t have your answer, but can now add one tidbit. On mine, the loop which travels with the lid (06064 in Alan’s drawing - THANKS, Alan) is of greater diameter than the slot in latch - just as you mentioned in your original post. On mine, the difference is 0.030”. I believe my hardware is o...
