Timing
I checked the timing on my '66 TBird today. Warmed it up, seemed to idle nicely at about 650rpm, put a timing light on it and it was showing about 6 deg BTDC..........except that was with the vacuum advance line still connected to the distributor. Disconnected it, plugged it and STILL had 6 deg BTDC...

Re: Pass side vent hose under dash
The part that Stubbie suggested (https://www.parts123.com/parts123/dynde ... b&uKeY=687) is the correct part, however i found it to be rather expensive for a small piece of rubber. Particularly when i have to ship it to NZ and do the dollar conversion. I did attempt to replace it with a section ...

Re: car starts when i turn switch to on position
Replace the ignition switch. My issue was similar in that i would start the car but the starter motor would keep spinning while the engine was running and when i switched it off. Had to disconnect the battery each time. I did replace the starter solenoid three times before i figured out it was the i...

Re: Dash Gauges - intermittent
I'm with you Scott on this one. Re-installed the original CVR (nothing wrong with it, just thought it was smart to replace it while the dash was out), extended the wires another 6 inches (just in case i had to buy a new CVR then it would be easier to get to) and grounded it against the bulkhead. All...

Dash Gauges - intermittent
Hi, For the first time in nearly 2 months i took the TBird for a drive...........the oil, gas and temp gauges worked as expected initially then all 3 dropped back to "zero" and 30 seconds later showed correctly and again dropped back to rest. This kept happening during my 30 minute drive. ...

Re: 1966 carb spacer line
I'm guessing but i presume the modulator line to the trans is getting enough vacuum to work. But returning the vacuum lines to where Ford put them is always going to be the best solution. Again, look closely at the engine bay pics here to route the right lines to the right place, then you are less l...

Re: 1966 carb spacer line
Yup, thats the hard line to the transmission where the vacuum line connects too. Other end is obviously the front of the carb spacer.

Re: 1966 carb spacer line
I have a '66 HT with smog so these photos might help. I laid a yellow piece of electrical flex (second photo) along the route the vacuum hose takes from the front of the carby to the rear of the engine so that its easy to see. In the first photo you can see where the vacuum line connects into the ha...

Re: 1966 carb spacer line
66, 390, c6 Two questions- 1: is the carb spacer necessary? I’ve been running a new Holley for a few months now with no spacer, haven’t noticed any shifting issues. A little dieseling every so often. (May just be the choke, but you never know with Los Angeles heat) I only noticed the carb spacer wa...

Yup, thats the one. MarkII Enterprises.
As i said, twice the price but taking a punt on a chinese(?) or crap repop made one isn't worth the pain installing twice.

Re: Neutral Safety Switch
Update on the new NSS: I purchased the NSS from Mark II Enterprises via Ebay, basically a Lincoln unit (Part#: XXEL04564). Not cheap, actually twice the price, but it certainly appeared to be more robust in construction than the repop one i originally purchased which was next to useless. Its install...

BTW, how or where can one get the "Thunderbird Scoop"? Being on the other side of the world makes it difficult to send things, but surely its online?

Re: Neutral Safety Switch
After a little research regarding those pesky/dodgy new neutral safety switches, I found this refurb info: http://vintagethunderbirdclub.net/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?t=12699 So I pulled my new non-working new NSS apart, took the disc piece and made it mate better with the body. Simply use a sheet of 600...
