My first impulse would be something in the Duraspark ignition module. Even new parts can be defective.

Pretty simple on a 77. DIsconnect heater hoses and then 3 screws on top cover. remove cover. and heater core lifts straight out.You should think about replacing heater hoses if they are old. Also check heater valve and hard pipes on manifold for signs of leakage.
