Check for wear on the detent plate and shift lever. Losing Park position is an early sign of failure of those parts. Do a search of this forum....type in "transmission detent" . In that search you will find a post with alink to instructions on how to replace the detent plate and shifter le...

There is no trim (shown as black trim in your photo) in that location. So just remove that trim in your photo and you will be as original.

Re: NO 2ND GEAR - '61 THUNDERBIRD

Check the vacuum line to the modulator valve at the transmission for leaks, and the modulator valve might be failing and need replacing.
Those two items would be an easy and inexpensive fix. Worth looking at before getting into the inner workings of the transmission.
Good Luck!!

Re: Trim on a 61

Those two chrome dashes, I believe, were meant to fit between the three rectangular "hash marks" on the '62 rear quarter as seen on my '62.

According to the 1961-1963 OFS, Sports Side Trim Body Protection Molding was a dealer installed option in 1962 only. Pg. H6-1 and H6-2.

Re: What is the best source to purchase a 1961-1963 TBIRD

I heartily agree with Icon's opinion on auctions. And his warning applies to all sale venues, auctions, magazines, online sales, private sales, etc. A buyer should always be wary, become educated about the item he is seeking, and perform due diligence with an in depth inspection before parting with ...

Re: Brake Light Bulb Replacement

According to Superbrightleds.com , you should use a red LED behind a red lens for maximum brightness.

Here's a link to that info....

Re: Brake Light Bulb Replacement

My Tbird is a 1962. To change tail light bulbs, remove taillight red lens for access to the bulb. Your '63 is probably the same? 4 screws in the lens hold it all together. Shown and described in the 62 shop manual, pages 10-4 and 10-5. Also check the Electrical Assembly Manual.

Re: Tag Light

There are two "tag lights" on the '62. They are located in the upper corners of the bumper opening for the license plate. They are described in the shop manual pages 10-4 and 10-5 with an illustration and take a #67 bulb. Sponsoring vendors have reproductions available. I've included a pho...
