Re: New Thunderbird Club in Florida
Nice. That may be where I end up retiring. I'm sure Pearl will enjoy being there.

Re: Tire options for a 63
Ok, so I've read a lot of threads and online discussions about which tire brands and sizes are closest to original. There's a variety of opinions out there. Is it fair to say the Coker 800R14s with the 1" whitewalls are as true to OEM and are the best fit? But, with their cost being roughly 5 ...

Vent window retaining retaining nut
I pulled the vent windows on my 62 to replace the seals. Of course the nuts that the bolts (top part of the vent window assembly) were gone on the passenger side and the guy that painted the car put a nut in place to hold the window in place. Needless to say that was a real treat trying to get the n...

Re: 63 Tbird Coil spring removal
I can't agree more with Alan Tast on this. These springs are extremely dangerous and a lot of shops won't even touch them. Those that do will tell you horror stories about how a 'standard' spring compressor let go on the big Ford front springs. The shop that rebuilt my front suspension showed me a v...

Re: What do you think of this 'Bird? Too much?
Personally? Interesting but worthless for anything outside of an air conditioned indoor car show. I certainly wouldn't want to drive it in the summer time. No windows, bubble top and no A/C means a miserable drive no matter the temp when the sun is out. It would be like driving an EZ Bake Oven. They...

Re: 1956 Thunderbird For Sale
Joe, I fully agree with your comment, I could not have said it better. I personally believe that we should put a new sign-up rule in place where membership can only post "For Sale" items after a nominal wait time and posts. This is done by other Forums, and seems to work to prevent once o...

1963 Thunderbird Seats
Pretty decent shape, no tears in vinyl and the foam is in good condition. Drivers seat is power but doesn't go forward or back. Does go up and down. Guessing a relay but it will need to be checked out. If interested contact me at tcofield@centurylink.net and we can chat. 450 dollars for the front an...

Re: GM Alternator conversion
As for the wiring, I had no problem with just running one wire to the solenoid and grounding the other. I didn't do anything special. Other than the generator light not working it seems to work fine.

I used this for my 62 when I did the alternator conversion. It works very well.
It isn't the cheapest solution but it was a lot better than the jerry rigged method that was on the car when I started.

Re: clock movement
In a prior life I was a woodworker and built clocks. I have access to all kinds of movements. I bought a quartz movement that automatically adjusts for daylight savings time. Its battery operated but the battery lasts like 2 years. Its a 5 minute job to change the battery and the accuracy can't be ...

Re: internet title
I know some states put 'exempt' on older cars like ours. My 65 Fairlane has had it's whole instrument cluster replaced, including speedo so the real miles aren't the same as what is on the odometer.

Re: First hand experience with this "reproduction" AM/FM radio
Would a 62 have a negative or positive ground? I'm not sure which I would buy if I bought this.

Original interior on my 62 Thunderbird. This car has no fading of the interior so maybe this will help too.

Re: Need Recomendation for Insurance Carrier
That sounds about right for most classic car insurance. Mine through Hagerty is something like 375 for a year. That includes roadside coverage and towing up to 100 miles if I remember right. I have two Thunderbirds, one valued at 15K, another at 21K and a 65 Fairlane valued at 12K so similar values....

Re: 1962 Conversion to Power Windows
I have an entire setup (somewhere in the shed) that I stripped out of a parts car to change my 62HT to power windows. Then I started seriously looking at the work involved. The convenience of putting the passenger side window down without reaching over and cranking is nice but I don't think it would...
