Re: Carburetor rebuild

Oh, one question. What's the point of the dash pot? I doubt it's functioning as it should, looks like rubber membrane inside spring is ruptured. But doesn't strike me as having a terribly important function...

Re: Carburetor rebuild

I got the kit from rockauto. Pretty sure the model is C4 AF VA If the secondary isles screw is the one in bottom right of below photo, then it turns fine. In fact, all screws/bolts seem to turn ok. The shafts and butterfly discs are all super snug, in fact the primaries shaft looks like it's maybe b...

Carburetor rebuild

Hi all, Rebuilt my carb over the holidays, thought I'd share some of my experiences. It's an autolite 4100 off a '66 that was being parted out. Guessing it had been rebuilt as there were blue dabs of paint on some of the bolts, and it was generally quite clean. First off, the surface on carb body th...

Re: Project Update

Thanks guys! One anecdote about the satin finish: I though it would be safer bet because it presumably hides imperfections better. And while that may be true, the problem is that if you have a blemish in the final spray, you can't just sand/buff it out, or you'll end up with a shiny spot. And becaus...

Project Update

Hey Guys, Sorry, went radio silent for too long a time. In the spring I started with body work, fixing remaining rust bits, dents, chips, etc. and it was one hell of a grind :( I finished painting just before winter really kicked in, and was lucky winter had a late start. None the less, it was cold ...

Re: Rear wheel bearing

Ah, ok. I always see the bearings pictured with an additional ring, but it always seems to be labeled "spacer" instead of "retainer". Makes sense now, thanks!

Rear wheel bearing

I've been hearing a rythmic sound from the back end, increases with speed, independent of load, not terribly dependent on turning. All signs seem to point to a wheel bearing. Jacked up the car, and sure enough, the drivers side rear wheel wobbles a little bit, other side is solid. So my question is,...

Re: New vacuum advance, car stalls on acceleration

Sorry, kind of disappeared from this thread for a long while. So I did get the Autolite 4100 off a guy who was parting out a 1966 Thunderbird, so maybe the port on the passenger side is the incorrect place to hook up the vacuum advance? I will take a picture of the vacuum port and post. Not sure whe...

First bit of cruising!

Hi all! Took the bird out Friday night to the white oaks a&w, surprised to see some 50+ cars there! Car needs some more work before she fits right in :) Also took it on the highway to my folks place, who had a bunch of visitors from Europe. Needless to say, the car was a big hit! ./image-archive...

New vacuum advance, car stalls on acceleration

So I've replaced my vac advance like a good boy, and had it hooked up to my old autolite 4300, and it ran, with all sorts of issues I attributed to the carb. Now I put on the 4100, but initially withou vac advance as I needed to get an adapter to hook it up, and it ran great, even with a giant sucki...

Re: transmission shifts late

Hey Royce, I'm a transmission noob, so if it was me I'd check fluid levels. Other than that I have no idea.

However, I am curious if you could tell me at what speed yours shifts into 3rd, as I'm not sure mine is doing it at all :\

Re: highway rpm's and a story

Went awesome. They told me steering and suspension are all tight, just a few pesky bulbs needed replacing. I was hoping to hold off on new tires till I could get some nice rims, but the blowout accelerated the need, so I just went ahead and got all new tires. With the spoked rims on it actually look...

Re: highway rpm's and a story

If the weathers nice this Friday, 15th, I'll head on up to Skyview A&W, hopefully I'll see some of you guys there!

Btw, swapped in the autolite 4100, and what a difference! However, it barely runs at all with the new vacuum advance hooked up. Just another mystery to solve! Anyone have any ideas?
