Misc 55-57 new parts for sale - sold pending payment

My wife's 55 was finished about a year ago and we are clearing out all small parts left over from the project. There are a lot of new bolts/electrical/rubber pieces, steering column hub (3511A) which is unopened, license plate surround, battery shield, window felts, suspension bushings heater door (...

Re: Where to Buy Dash Paint?

Yes, I bought it in the can and then grabbed a Preval sprayer from Home Depot, link below:

It worked great. That paint gives the correct 'dimpled' finish.

The annoying part? The transmission was totally rebuilt and reinstalled only a year ago. All new seals/bands etc.

Re: Fordomatic dipstick tube spits up after sitting

I suspect the torque converter is draining back into the pan, causing the level to be too high. Unless you're prepared to pull the trans and make necessary repairs, you'll have to live with it or run the car more often to avoid the drain-back. JMO, Bob C Thanks Bob. So you think the issue is that t...

Re: 56 Battery

Speaking from personal experience, I would avoid Antique Auto Battery, if they are even still in business. We spent several hundred dollars for a correct looking battery which lasted 11 months. It had a 12-month warranty and luckily I managed to reach out to them @10 days prior to the end of that pe...

Fordomatic dipstick tube spits up after sitting

The wife has decided to move her '55 on to pastures new and I am getting it ship shape before listing it online. It hasn't been started in several months and when I started it there was a puddle of trans fluid under the rear P/S of the engine. Doing a bit of detective work it looks like the source w...

'56? Thunderbird white kick panels, new and FREE

So I am in the midst of a major clearout and I have two brand new white kick panels for what I THINK are a 56 tbird. If you want them let me know. Just cover shipping and they are yours. they are spotless, what looks like a mark at the bottom of the one on the right is a shadow. My good deed for the...

Re: Restoring hood release bar on '55

I am in the midst of getting a new concrete floor down in the workshop but once that is finished and I get the car back in there I will take a look. My primary source of head scratching right now is how to actually disassemble the item. I thought from memory the ends were crimped on?

Re: I look for TDC on the crankshaft

It can happen on the FE engines balancer as that thread link refers too, BUT on the Y Block engine the T Bird pulleys cant twist .(unless you bend the snout) I have seen passenger car pulleys on T Birds that have had the engine replaced. Perhaps your balancer was a passenger car unit? Oldmics No, m...

Re: Auto box not changing gear from 2nd to 3rd properly

I have almost precisely the same issue at the moment. The shift point from 2nd to 3rd is a LITTLE bit high and jarring. However, if I lift off of the gas it slips nicely into 3rd and then I can get back on the gas. Mine was adjusted precisely per the manual but I suspect a further bit of tweaking is...

Re: I look for TDC on the crankshaft

The balancer marks on a T Bird pulley will not move due to the insulator wearing out. That only happens on passenger car pulleys. Oldmics All I know is that on my pulley the marks had moved so I had it rebuilt. This thread too indicates it can happen on a Thunderbird... http://vintagethunderbirdclu...

Re: I look for TDC on the crankshaft

One thing to note is that often the timing points have moved on the pulley so don't assume they are correct. The rubber breaks down and allows them to rotate a little.
This is a good thread to read...
