Re: 1962 hard top 5.8 engine swap

that will raise things up. i wanted to stay as low as possible since my final destination is EFI. also, things don't fit as easily as you'd expect. between the oil pan, radiator, exhaust system, and steering there are some challenges. i tried to use a dual sump pan and it wouldnt fit at all. i ended...

Re: 1962 Rear end leaf spring mounting position

my main question is: what changed in your suspension geometry? the axle is designed to be above the springs. if the body is sitting lower then you need to correct the problem first. what fill hole are you in reference of? moving the diff will change your driveline geometry and may create some vibrat...

Re: electronic ignition

you could hide the duraspark box if you wanted to keep the original look. there's plenty of hiding places on a bullet bird.

Re: electronic ignition

look into it before you buy a kit. if the kit uses an optic set up to see the break in the ignition then it'll be sensitive to dust and debris. a hall effect switch is way more reliable.

Re: Rack and pinion in a 1961 convert

there's been a small handful of 4.6 swaps done to bullet birds. you may have to get a custom exhaust header made. spending time looking for the few guys that have done it may be worth your time. i'm currently nearing the turn key part of my 5.0 swap and the drag link/pitman arm is an issue for me as...

Re: 1962 hard top 5.8 engine swap

so, nothing has went as planned for my project. mainly, being busy at work. the leaf springs are in and I just made the trans mount today. has anyone else with 5.0 or 5.8 projects had any luck? my next big hurdle is the exhaust system.....

Re: 1962 hard top 5.8 engine swap

it sounds like you know what you're doing if you have an a9p and a separate computer for your transmission. my plan was efi but this is my daily driver and im on a tight budget so im going carbed for a while. my computer will be an obd1 with an aod trans, gt40p heads and intake. i may have to make h...

Re: 1962 hard top 5.8 engine swap

i used fox body mounts and made adapters with my arc welder. the oil pan MUST be a front sump! the exhaust hasn't been tackled yet. I'm in the process of putting the new leaf springs in so i can get my pinion angle, then i can do the trans mount and not have a horrible vibration. the biggest headach...

Re: 1962 hard top 5.8 engine swap

Well the motor is finished, again. I put the motor in the car 3 times this month due to clearance problems. FYI a double hump oil pan won't work due to the drag link in the back..... I'm putting the motor in for hopefully the final time tomorrow.

I have a newly rebuilt starter and generator, along with the power steering pump with the bracket and the fan. I need to get these parts off my shelf!

Hopefully I'll be able to describe how mine runs this summer. Progress has been slow due to time constraints. The engine is almost together so my next big challenge is the computer and motor mounts.

Adjust the hood for the cowl gap. Then adjust the grill/front. Then adjust the fenders and the height bumpers under the front.
