Motor VIN Location / Vin Matching

I've been told to see if my car is a "VIN Matching" car. So far the door and the radiator bracket match. I'm not sure where to find the motor VIN. Are there others I should look at as well?

Oh, geez, I didn't even think about that. It's just vinyl, not a convertible. I have since found out that a "landau" top means it only covers 1/2 the roof, so it's not a landau. What I'm wondering is if I have to replace the entire vinyl or if I can just replace the center piece. It looks ...

What kind of top do I have?

Long time since I've been on! It's been a looong winter but I finally took the ol' girl out today for a spin. I'd like to get the top replaced but I'm not sure what I'm looking for. It's a black top and feels like rubber/vinyl with ridges on it. I'd consider it like corduroy pants. It has strips on ...

When I adjust guages like this, first I see where it is at zero (Far left, or whatnot.) Then, in the case of the gas guage, I fill the tank and see where full is. If it's outta whack, I just tweak the aluminum needle by bending it a little. It's tough because you can bend it too far and it will stic...

Full disassembly of fuel/temp gauge

My fuel and temp gauges were shot. I tested them by putting 3v across the terminals which should cause them to go to F/ull and/or H/ot on the temp gauge. I got one from a different model year (It was smaller and white). Same internal parts. So I fully disassembled my '63 and fully disassembled the o...

What I'm wondering is that when I pulled the clock today the old voltage regulator wasn't attached to ground. I'm wondering if it spiked and blew out my gauges.

I can't find a choke. From the photos I've seen it should be right next to the regulator. I don't see one. So, the regulator works. I have +5v to my gauges. Gauges still don't work. They worked last week. Temp gauge stopped working after I cleaned headlight switch and replaced bulbs. Then fuel gauge...

Soldering up a new regulator! Wish me luck!

My "constant voltage regulator" is only being constant from +2v to +4v on a good day. The specs say it should go from +5v to +10v on average. So I'm following directions from another post and soldering in an LM7805 into the original case to see how it works. Wish me luck!

Wow! Thanks for all the responses! Exactly what I needed. I do NOT have the electrical assembly book yet. I'll have to put it on my list. I have the resto guide (Which I don't think is worth the money) and the CD version of the shop manual which are just PDF scans of the original book, but it has al...

Washer fluid system

I wasn't sure if my 63 had the ability for washer fluid until I started reading the service manual. I've found the pump with the wire going to it. One hose is completely missing and the other gets cut short of the firewall. I found in Larry's catalog the reservoir bag but have NO idea where it shoul...

Cool!

Just bought all the parts to build this. Of course I spent $55 because I just HAD to buy enough to make 5 million of them, right? And a new "3rd hand" (with magnifying glass and mini light!) And an assortment of shrink tubing, and, and, and... no wonder these care are so expensive. haha. T...

Fixed headlight switch, now fuel gauge and temp gauge inop

First, let me apologize for this being so lengthy. I want to make sure you know what I've done and what I've checked already to help troubleshooting. I was driving the other night (First time at night) and my dash lights didn't work. I could tell that the previous owner had tried to fix this by the ...

Engine paint

I'm looking for engine paint in the similar teal color as the Thunderbird logo on my trunk. Where's a good place to find high temp colors like that?

Yes the same amount went in. Currently the heater core is bypassed so I can't turn the heat on. I thought about the thermostat but just seems odd that it would do it after I replaced the hose.

AM Radio not working

The AM radio in my car isn't working. I'll check the fuse in the panel (I haven't done so yet) but if that one's OK would this one also have an in-line fuse somewhere? I know many cars in the mid-70's/early 80's had those.
