Re: 1966 town landau 2 barrel carb rebuild

When I got my 64 Tbird it had been sitting for awhile and did not run well due to fuel delivery issues. Based on my experience my advice is to start at the fuel tank. Disconnect the line to tank and at the fuel pump. Using a compressor air line and blow out the line to release any rust, etc. When I ...

Re: Refresh or Rebuild?

Vince, your tranny advice is welcome and I would definitely be having a transmission place doing this work for sure. Raven, your expertise as always is appreciated and I will use your checklist as a guide when dealing with a shop to look at what needs to be done to diagnose and determine next steps....

Re: Refresh or Rebuild?

Thanks to all for your input. The car odometer is 24700 miles but I am pretty sure it has rolled over but not sure. No history for service records when purchased. It originated from San Jose, CA (have original gate release) then purchased by a gentleman in Boston and stored for 10 years before being...

Refresh or Rebuild?

Hello All Looking for some advice on what constitutes a refresh vs a rebuild on my 1964 390 and COM tranny. Drivetrain has been great since I purchased back in 2013 but past couple of years have noticed more fluid leaks-both oil and tranny fluid. After some prelim investigation I feel the rear main ...

Re: Emblem Barrel clips

On a few different projects, I have used my trusty hot glue gun (gorilla glue sticks) to add some confidence to a barrel nut or Two that just didn't feel like it was tight or could be tight enough to my liking. Had to do this to a few of the Thunderbird letters on the front of hood on my 64. Not con...

Re: Good Neighbor Sam

Love this post and the video! Jack Lemon was a pretty good driver given the factory handing issues of that 64 tbird especially with those old bias ply tires! Brought back some memories of a business trip I took to San Fran back in the early 80s experiencing those crazy hill streets especially for me...

Re: Number of Thunderbirds produced

Is it possible that John Rotella at the Thunderbird registry may be able to provide some info? I know he helped me with questions a few years back which included info on old dealerships in California for my bird.

Re: Part identification

Thanks Wally for the info. I always wondered why the drivers and passenger side were different on my 64. Why is that??

Re: Need advise

Not sure where you are located but maybe once you have it inside try connecting with your nearest Tbird club and get some opinions on what you have. That might help in your decision on the project. I hung out at many cruise nights and car shows before I bought/attempted mine....knowing I would need ...

Re: hood fit

I have found in my experience that anything under extreme tension with bind points will cause fitment issues with hoods, trunk lids, doors, etc. Before panicking, take Raven's advice and lube those pivot points first. It may be all that needs to be done to correct the issue. I have had luck doing th...

Re: Clarification on motor/trans pull EDIT followup on pull both ways, photos

Great pics and write up Paul. When I do decide to pull my 64 390/COM, I will take your advice and look at a combined pull going slow and sure. Good info on the picker setting. As I am reading your write up I am appreciating my easy recent experience with a picker and an inline 6 cylinder from a Falc...

Re: Clarification on motor/trans pull

Thanks Wally for the offer of help when needed.

Steve....I hear you ........saw a sign in a shop not long ago that sums it up:

Hourly Shop Rates

$50.00 per hour

$75.00 per hour if you watch

$100.00 per hour if you help

$150.00 per hour if you tried once and couldn't

Re: Clarification on motor/trans pull

Although it requires a dedicated person to video and may not be at the top of this list for this event, sure would be interesting to have it YouTubed for the benefit of those of us who will possibly be facing the same job in the future. So much excellent advice on this forum to add commentary to the...

Re: Value of a Custom 1964 Thunderbird

If I were looking at a custom car like this, I would be mostly concerned with the quality of the work. If simple things like gauges were overlooked in the build, it would be difficult to believe that the rest of the work was done meticulously. If you can share photos of the car, it's possible we co...
