Re: Carb questions Idle Secondaries and choke

Thanks for the comments. I'd sort of come to the same conclusions. The car is driving pretty nicely now, and meets all of your criteria. I'm lucky that I can buy premium gas without any ethanol in it. I didn't look at what size my jets are. I'd always been happy with the general running. I haven't h...

Re: Carb questions Idle Secondaries and choke

Pump gasket fitted. No change to how it runs, but housing is dry now. Running is generally good, but the secondaries setting is knife edge between the secondaries locking closed and the stop keeping them too far open and upping the idle speed once hot. The "book" setting gives me too high ...

Re: Carb questions Idle Secondaries and choke

The lower gasket broke up when I removed the lower spacer, and I could not see any evidence of a leak. I cleaned and flatted the surfaces and put it back with fresh gaskets. Still has slight hunting during the warm up, but runs well once it is hot. I got gaskets from the local parts house. Seems tha...

Re: Carb questions Idle Secondaries and choke

I found a vacuum leak bewtween base plate casting, and the manifold, just ahead of the choke. Spraying carb cleaner directly at that area drops the rpm, which is not what I expected, but something must be going on. I'll get if off tomorrow, and see what it looks like in there.

Re: Carb questions Idle Secondaries and choke

Thanks for the comments. I've left the accel pump alone for now, as it squirts instantly, and the pick up is great. I will take a look at it though. Vacuum at hot idle is a shade under 20, and has slight tremble of maybe 1/4 " Sounds like my choke is not too far off the mark then. One pump was ...

Carb questions Idle Secondaries and choke

:new-bday: I'd welcome any comments on the Idle, Secondaries and choke on my "63 with the 4100. I've just got the car back on the road, and I still have some "old" issues and a couple of new ones. Here is some background for context. The car was running well when I bought it about 15 ...

Re: Rear suspension tips 64-66/EDIT Mike Eaton of Eaton Detroit Spring video technical info and mod mistakes

On my '63, just ahead of the rear wheels and inboard of the pinch welds on the sills is a flat plate, just over an inch wide and a few inches long. I used a ply wood packing strip between that and a jack stand. It was very solid. As a back up I also used a pair of jack stands under the cross member ...

Re: Rear suspension tips 64-66/EDIT Mike Eaton of Eaton Detroit Spring video technical info and mod mistakes

Thanks, great write up and it inspired me to have a go. Mine went pretty well as described. I'm pretty sure my car has never been apart before, but all the bolts moved easily, and most of them still had the original plating on them. Apart from a shackle bolt that had been bent and had to be cut off,...

Hi Tom,

Yes, shipping is always a bear to the great frozen north. I'll be getting other things, so I'll add it in to a larger order.

Thanks Tom.

I have it all, and it is all working, except the part that secures the flip cover. It looks like it is spring, part no 43567C on you diagram, is that correct? Does it just snap into the sort of spiral grooves on the end of the flip cover stem?

Trunk Key Cover

I have a trunk key cover for my 63 hardtop, but not the parts to fit it.
Does anyone have a photo of how it is secured, and if the parts are available please.

Hi Graeme, Yes, the power steering is fixed now. I made up a spacer, but it could have been done with a pile of washers. The PO had a technical background, and was a racer, so I assumed that it couldn't have been something as simple as that. I've found a few other things that were just as simple to ...

Hi Jay, Nice pics. Yes, I'm just going to use and enjoy the Tbird, and originality is not going to be an issue. It seems pretty reliable, but I still need to take a few rattles out of it. I love the way it drives, and overall it was a great bang for the buck. As for running cost, the pleasure more t...

Hi Jay,

Yes, not bad that it can deliver those numbers without a cat, or any emissions gear at all.

I guess you have to take the rough with the smooth in AZ. I agree about the bike thing though. Did the proposal to exempt bikes get dropped?
