Re: 1964 Water Temp Sensor & Gauge Problem?

Is the T a change from the way your gauge historically read? Otherwise, my gauge always read normally right at that T point forever.

Re: 1964 Thunderbird

When you get it running, don't give in to the temptation to jump in and take it for a test drive without checking out the brakes first. These cars didn't have great brakes at the best of times and it's almost a guarantee that they need work after sitting so long. Another warning if you are unfamili...

Re: Speedometer Cable Removal/Re-Install 66 Convertible

I sent Collineking an email. I think he may have simply been looking at the wrong hole in the fire wall. Hopefully issue rectified. @Collinking: The tip about the correct firewall opening is key. The length of the cable is exactly scaled to the need—neither an inch too much nor too little. If you’r...

Re: bulkhead connecter

That kinda detail about company recall literature is stuff I know little about but find interesting. If Wally or Fuz catch this thread, those are the guys who are up on that stuff. Or Alan Tast or Jim Mills maybe.

Re: bulkhead connecter

I'm gonna guess the wire you mention is black with a yellow line; that's the alternator wire. It carries full voltage through the charging circuit so however you want to connect up at the firewall, just make sure it's a clean, solid, insulated connection. Wire nuts wouldn't be my choice; proper gaug...

Re: Speedometer Cable Removal/Re-Install 66 Convertible

Won't pull out at the speedo end...hmm. That's a new one. Tricks and tips don't exist without a look at the transmission end. Don't be concerned. It's a simple removal--one screw and a small retainer. I'd be looking at the plastic drive gear that's inside the transmission for damage, ie, possible re...

Re: Speedometer Cable Removal/Re-Install 66 Convertible

It's been a week since you asked; I didn't see the topic. By now maybe you've had your success; here's hoping. If not, I've had a few experiences, and learned a few lessons. Maybe I can shed some light if needed. Half the time, the nylon gears in the odometer are the cause of bouncing speedos in thi...

Re: Removing the Evaporator and Heater Boxes...

Welcome to the forum. The only true diagrams are reprints of the factory assembly graphics--reduced, so the print is small but, they're accurate. You can get em at any Tbird supply house like Bird Nest or Pat Wilson. Unfortunately, no decent graphics exist here. This is the book you want; it's cheap...

Re: Resell value

I'm assuming I will need to put 10,000 in the car. The original paint has been ruined by a previous owner so I will put my own custom paint last. Does anyone have any idea if I make this top notch and keep it all original how much I can sell it for. Also, a "custom" paint job will not enh...

Re: 1964 Power Steering Query.

Big job, your work is cut out for you. I attempted to remove all the Type F from my system for a full synthetic Type F swap. In the end, two things: my two fluids are compatible and at very best I know there was still fluid lurking in small places. You’re best off removing the wiper pump and flushin...

Re: 1964 Power Steering Query.

I hesitate to touch this as I know expert minds have much more to say. My two cents: I’ve never known any Ford man to use anything but Type F in his Ford, but that probably related exclusively to transmission. If your PS/wiper system is working...? Maybe don’t fix it. I’m certain you don’t want to b...

Re: Where is my Antifreeze going?

Like yourself and others I bet you have a wrong sized cap issue. Roadway discharge is such a fine, thin deposit at speed no one ever sees it happening. Highly doubtful you’re losing antifreeze via exhaust system. It would be a chronic and worsening condition you’d see and so would all your neighbors...

Re: 1964 Power Steering Query.

Tony, also your question about a messy disconnection...part of life. You will have air in your system afterwards. Follow the bleed procedure for PS. You should be fine. Type F cleans right up.

Re: 1964 Power Steering Query.

@Terry and Tony: The steel part of my pressure line seems to be designed to fit the Tbird engine bay profile precisely. I got it from BIRD NEST more than 7 years ago. Key to the orderly fit are the two hose brackets and their rubber grommets—the small square one on the brace and the curved on on the...

Re: 1964 Power Steering Query.

Hello Tony, Here's my two cents. These shots are several years old, before my teardown/rebuild phase where I'm stuck now. If you squint, or click to enlarge, you can see power steering hose routing somewhat. I rebuilt the PS system on this '64 mimicking '64s I studied at local judging events and our...
