I'm gonna guess the wire you mention is black with a yellow line; that's the alternator wire. It carries full voltage through the charging circuit so however you want to connect up at the firewall, just make sure it's a clean, solid, insulated connection. Welcome to the forum. The only true diagrams are reprints of the factory assembly graphics--reduced, so the print is small but, they're accurate. Like yourself and others I bet you have a wrong sized cap issue. Roadway discharge is such a fine, thin deposit at speed no one ever sees it happening. Highly doubtful you’re losing antifreeze via exhaust system. It would be a chronic and worsening condition you’d see and so would all your neighbors...

Tony, also your question about a messy disconnection...part of life. You will have air in your system afterwards. Follow the bleed procedure for PS. You should be fine. Type F cleans right up.
