Re: 63 TB_Heater Valve Reproductions
The heater control cable I purchased from Bird Nest is 58 inches. I found a defroster cable from Thunderbird Headquarters that is 10 inches shorter. I haven't installed it yet but I am betting that this will solve the issue. Cheers! sounds like you might be onto something there, I'd be curious to k...

Re: 63 TB_Heater Valve Reproductions
I think the aftermarket control valve without the original thermostatic control is the only one available, unless you can find a NOS one on ebay or something. And even then, the seals might be dried out from age. I had the same problem with my heater control valve when I changed the valve and the he...

Re: Disc Brakes
I just finished installing the ABS Power Brake kit on my '63 last month. Not too bad, installation was relatively straightforward and went without too much trouble. The included instructions are not the best, but if you're mechanically inclined, you'll be able to figure it out. Seemed like off the s...

Re: Rag Joint Removal
Thank you gents, I got it out after some prying. I did have to place a block of wood on a jack underneath the pitman arm, and loosened the insulator-to-frame bolts. I was able to lift the box with the hose to get the joint of the splines on the box end, had to pry it off the column side while holdin...

Rag Joint Removal
I'm tackling replacing the rag joint while I have the brake booster out of the car as mine has a tear in it. I've removed the 2 clamp bolts, but it's not obvious to me how to remove it from the shaft. I read you can move the steering column over and pull on the steering wheel, and the joint did move...

Here is the 1962 Electrical Assembly manual. This one does NOT have the giant watermark on every page like the Osborn manual.

1963 Thunderbird Wiring Diagrams
I recently received this book from a retired Ford Tech. Having had various flavors of wiring diagrams for my '63, I found this one to be the most complete and detailed of all of them. This is the same wiring book that Ford dealer techs used. I've scanned the Thunderbird section in its entirety and w...

Re: New Heater Core/Control Valve - Constant Heat
Thanks gents. I had to take the dash apart again, which is funny because the shop manual even says to test everything is good before you close it up. I'll pay attention a little closer next time. I used a vacuum gauge on the vacuum motor and it tested good. We ran the engine for a few minutes, then ...

Re: New Heater Core/Control Valve - Constant Heat
Hi Ken, thanks for your response. I had heard those go bad, it's on my list of things to check but I have to take the dash apart again to get to it since it sits atop the heater box on an AC car. I think it could be the culprit here, the flap door in front of the blower is controlled by it.

New Heater Core/Control Valve - Constant Heat
Hi Folks, On my '63 with AC, I replaced my leaky heater core, and control valve about a month ago when I had half the dash apart for a stereo install. Finally got to test drive it, and it seems like the heater is always on? Controls are all set to off, but I have heat coming through as if it were th...

Re: Ball joint - Upper
Hi Karl, I replaced the uppers on my '63 back in July, and ran into the same thing. Bought mine from Bird Nest, but unlike the ones in your pic, they weren't marked on the box or the part itself. Just a plain white box. I don't think they were made by Rare Parts, and came with metric hardware which ...

Re: The Bermuda Triangle of Bullet Birds
There, and the space behind the intake manifold forward of the firewall are both a black hole for parts. When I was replacing the hydraulic lines to wipers, I dropped the wrench back there on the little ledge. When I went to get it, I also picked up the two clips that originally held those lines tog...

Re: '63 Upper Control Arm and Spring Install
Thanks Karl, I got it last night. When you mentioned the threaded rod, I looked at how the Moog compressor operated, and tried rotating it so the channel was facing forward. Moved the bottom plate too, this seemed to change the behavior of the spring bowing when compressed such that when I went to u...

'63 Upper Control Arm and Spring Install
Hi folks, We're wrapping up the front suspension rebuild on my '63, and had a question about reinstalling the upper control arm and the coil spring. I have wound up the spring into the pocket, and am able to swing the upper arm into place to mount it to the studs. Spring is in position to where when...
