Hi Guenther, I have used Maxxis MA1 on my cars here in Germany since 2008 and they are quite good. The only problem is the white stripe, which sometimes gets discolored and won't clean up, but I found a way to paint them with white rubberized paint which works well.

I put Maxxis MA 1 on my 66 in 2010, no problems. On my 68 Mustang, the only problem I have is that the whitewall stripe is discolored around the perimeter.

How sloppy is your column shift linkage? There is a plastic vacuum release valve for the parking brake at the base of the column, which releases the vacuum of the brake ratchet in park or neutral. They sent me a rebuilt gearbox to Germany, fits and works perfectly.

Gerry, your work around sounds like the way to go if my repair doesn't hold up over time!
