Re: Oil Bath Questions

Don't know about restriction, but I have been told that the oil bath is a better filter Hello DynoDan, You are right about the sharp corner. But the metal mesh is a second step. It acts like a coarse version of a paper or fiber filter. When the car moves around, oil gets on the mesh and makes it ver...

Re: LED Tail Lights

I put one of those kits in my 56 and it really shows up the brake lights. I don't like the looks of the sunburst type LED's. They look funny on a Tbird in my estimation.

Re: Fuel pump problems

Can't help on the pump question, but call around to the Tbird parts vendors for the cartridge

Re: Oil Bath Questions

The top has a steel mesh inside it. Clean with gas, kerosene or carb cleaner. It does not come apart as I remember

I know the filter in my 56 has a fill marking but it is not pronounced. Look again carefully.

Re: What Clutch or Transmission is This?

Sounds like a sedan clutch. The sedans had a smaller clutch than the Tbirds. I thought they were 10 inch, but could have been 9.5. Check with Concours Parts as they sell parts for the sedan and Tbirds. Give them the specs you have so they can see if they can match your parts. Hill's also may be able...

Re: Remove 56 T-Bird Instrument Cluster

You should be able to change the bulbs w/o removing the cluster. When I have to work under the dash, I get a milk crate or like item that is the same height as the door sill. This makes it easier to get in lying on your back and easier to work under the dash

Re: spark plug wires

Two of the brackets are below and you will have to go under the car to get at them. The other two are relatively easy as they are on top

CASCO has the wires and if you want to spend a little more money they will set the wires up with new brackets so all you have to do is install everything.

Re: 1956 TBird radiator overflow recovery

As what was written above, the additional amount of fluid will not make any discernable difference in cooling. How much antifreeze are you putting in the radiator. You should not fill it up to the top as there needs to be room for expansion.. About an inch or so over the core should be enough. As fa...

Re: Headlights

Halogens require more power but if your electrical system is good should not be a problem. They are better than the regular seal beams. LEDs are supposed to be very good - require less power so I am told. Only thing about LEDs is they don't look like regular seal beams. In order to provide max power...

Re: New Member

Welcome The 56/57 steering wheel will not work in a 55. The 56/57 is dished which would place the wheel further back. You would have to use the entire steering column out of a 56 or 57. Not sure the 56/57 wheel will even work with a 55 column as the wheels were completely different. Regarding the en...

Re: Fuel Pump Not working

Never heard of having to prime an auto fuel pump. Pour some gas down the carb to start the engine. The pump should pull the fuel up as the engine is running, assuming that the lines are ok. One problem may be a bad soft line, either sucking air or had an internal clog.. If that doesn't do it, the pu...

Re: I am a new member of your forum.

As I thought, the power wire will go to the stud in the middle. Based on your picture of the wire, it looks like a push on connector - Try it. I would disconnect the battery first for the test.
