The 351M (351 Modified) motor is typical for running hot. Your heating problem is a common one. From your description of the symptoms, it does seem reasonable to conclude you need a light switch. First remove it, find the part number on it. Then, either look on ebay or at your local parts store. Some auto parts stores do carry these switches.

What chrome trim pieces do you need for your 78? Do you have pictures?
