Re: 4100 autolite auto choke question
Just rebuilt my 4100, no problems except the passage for hot air from manifold to choke housing is dlogged. I have sprayed cleaner AND 80 psi air pressure through this opening on choke: the PASSAGE from tube connection to inside the choke housing is plugged. No air or fluid passes. On carbs where t...

Re: Generator fried car stereo.
(Ms. Moderator, this needs to move to the 1955-57 Modified/Custom T-bird Forum) While the '55-'56 full-size Ford and T-birds are similar in mechanics and electrical systems, you do realize the VTCI Forum is dedicated to Thunderbirds? As a 63-year-old owner of a modified 1955 Victoria (also NOT a Cro...

Re: the small hole in the spyder/wheel center between the lug holes, my understanding is that this was used in conjunction with the fixture that was used for either wheel assembly or tire installation, i.e. a locating pin to hold wheels in the same place for alignment of the valve stem hole. Did all...

Re: 55 Restoration Project
If you're looking for a good introduction to finishes, part numbers, etc., VTCI's 1955-1957 Original Factory Specifications (OFS) Manual has this information. VTCI members-in-good-standing (i.e. dues-paying members) can purchase a copy through VTCI's Country Store by going to the link below - scroll...

Sorry, having issues posting pictures. The URL you're using is for a personal computer off of its C-drive. You should be able to load a photo into the Forum's server for display in a message by following these instructions: https://www.vintagethunderbirdclub.net/phpBB3/viewtopic.php?t=17653 If it's...

Re: 66 Fuel System Issue
I may have a bad ground - is that the other wire from sender? Silly question: is your car fitted with the Safety Convenience Control Panel? Part of this package is the "Low Fuel" light which comes on when a thermistor on the sending unit is exposed to air when the fuel level drops below w...

Re: Door Push Button Removal
I finally figured out how to do it. I highlighted the text and then Right clicked to print. Otherwise the print option was not available. Great information as the manuals didn't go into the detail you did. My latch is binding but working I only discovered it by accident. I thought it was natural to...

Re: Door Push Button Removal
This is very informative. I've been looking all over to find how to remove the latch. Mine is starting to bind and clunk when opening from the inside. I'll have to have the latch rebuilt at some point. Is there a way to print out this info? Can you not print this page from your computer to a printer?

Re: Worn out screw holes
There's always toothpics - something I was taught by an old-timer 40 years ago. I always try to hammer/dolly a worn-out hole first to push metal back into shape if I can, otherwise soft copper or steel wire. I do like the other suggestions, especially the cotter pin one.

Re: 55 Steering wheel restoration
Don't forget that big parts that determine success or failure of DIY steering wheel restoration are filing V-grooves in all of the cracks and filling them with a material that has similar expansion/contraction properties to the Tenite or similar plastics used from the mid-'50s-on. Not only that, tho...

Re: radiator recommendation
I've never been a big fan of aluminum radiators, heads or manifolds because of dielectric activity and/or the proclivity of coolant to turn acidic, along with the damage that can be done when mixing aluminum and cast iron components without a proper barrier between them. Part of the maintenance rout...

Re: wire spoke wheel fix/truing
I'm surprised Raven hasn't chimed in yet, as he's in suburban Toronto. We did have a chapter in Ontario - Southern Ontario Vintage Thunderbird Club, but the link to chapters from the Regional Director's Officer listing isn't working right now, and it's currently not listed in the Club's magazine, &q...

Re: Correct size air filter
There were a bunch of years when we couldn't get the big oval air filters for the dual quad air cleaner and now Scott Drake makes them. Perhaps we can get them to make these too. I think Scott Drake would probably be reluctant to reproduce the '64 'Bird filter unless it can also be applied to Musta...
