Re: 1965 R12 to R134a conversion
OK one more question, now I see that there are solvents that will flush the evaporator side of the system, but I cannot flush the evaporator except with compressed air, because the expansion valve is still in line, and it is so buried under the dash I just dont think its worth it to tear out the who...

Re: 1965 R12 to R134a conversion
hey thanks for the input on the Tecumseh compressor, I am draining it and I have PAG oil for the new installation. question: I have a new R/D and that goes on last, but can I flush the entire AC system with some harmless solvent to remove the old oil ? Would IPA alcohol work for that ? question: how...

1965 R12 to R134a conversion
I have a 65 Thunderbird with the stock AC R12 system, it has been empty for years, now I am going to resurrect it, it has the original big cast Iron compressor, turns fine, so I know it will still work. everything seems to be in order, but I have only 1 can of R12 left, so the only option is to use ...

Re: No Spark
you got a real problem there, could be a bad component or a bad wire, you have to go down the list of checking things in order: 1. remove the coil and test it with a good ohm meter, check the primary and secondary resistance values against the specifications in your shop manual. 2. turn on key and v...

Re: Upholstery options
my experience: 1. in 2007 I got lucky and found a very large piece of black Italian furniture leather for sale in Hollywood, and had my 63 T bird re-upholstered from scratch by a local shop and they did a very good job, I was quite pleased with that, wish I still had that car. It was not that expens...

Re: new motor mounts did not cure vibration 100% what gives ?
this is a very old thread, I dont know if I ever posted the solution, I took it to a transmission shop and he sat in it for s moment and said "you have an imbalanced torque converter, it happens from time to time" he said he sees this about once a year, now that they are computer balanced ...

does vacuum advance really help ?
I have a 1965 Thunderbird with what is probably not the original carb, it may be newer than a 65, it's an Autolite 4100 and works pretty good, but it has the ported vacuum port for the vacuum advance. For the 1965 does the vacuum advance vacuum line go to the carb port, or straight to the intake man...

AC belt idler pulleys
has anyone ever been able to service the cast iron ac belt idler pulleys ? I am getting ready to put the AC compressor back in and I notice the idler pulleys have no provision for lubrication, they still turn, but ... after 55 years I would think it's time to grease them, but don't see any way to ta...

Re: Brake mystery
my experience with a 63 Lincoln Continental was similar, but over time I learned that the relationship of the curvature of the shoes to the curvature of the drum is critical to all these issues you may have, I learned about this by taking the shoes and drums to an industrial brake rebuilding shop in...

Hi Folks Like all rebuilt carbs, the one that ended up in my car is not 100% complete, the dash pot and dash pot bracket are just gone, all I can see tells me that it should be there, but its just gone, lazy rebuilders ? Do you guys have any suggestions on where to get one other than ebay ? I looked...

Re: need help finding vacuum line diagrams
Hi Lee thanks for your reply, I am slowly accumulating a collection of vacuum diagrams and knowledge. One question: In this door lock vacuum diagram I found there is this device under the dash that has 6 or 7 vacuum hoses going in and out, and can you tell me what it is ? is it part of the door lock...
