Re: 1955 Distributor and vacuum advance ?'s
I had my vacuum advance can rebuilt by Don Hyde (972) 423-4636. Don said to test the unit connect a hose to vacuum canister and suck in, the advance arm should move, cover the hose with your tongue and it should hold vacuum. When I installed the can I rotated the points plate and held my finger over...

Re: Oem Wheels
I’m not going for concours. I just want to understand all of the possibilities and most of all I don’t want the tires/wheels to rub on the skirts My car has 14” aftermarket wire wheels and my first drive one of the skirts came off……… I’ve seen used wheels with and without the extra hole and some are...

Oem Wheels
I am thinking about changing my aftermarket wire wheels on my 55 to OEM. I read somewhere that the Thunderbird wheels have one small hole in between two lug nut holes. Are these the only wheels that are the correct size and offset? Are the full sized Ford wheels from the fifties different than the T...

1955 Distributor and vacuum advance ?'s
I've read the distributors are unique for each year. I don't know much about the history of my car but I've found and corrected a few things that were not done properly. I've only been able to drive the car about ten times since I bought it in November. It was running erratically and I had to rebuil...

Re: 55 Restoration Project
Buy all the documentation you can find including the restoration manual. It's not inexpensive but minor in the scope of work you are undertaking. It is the 'bible' for authenticity. Then the shop manual and at different points you may want the electrical and trim & sealer manuals. Would you hap...

Re: 55 Steering wheel restoration
As for a primer sealer, I would only use the same brand of products from start to finish. So, work it backwards. Go to your automotive paint supplier and ask what primer sealer you need for the brand of 2-part paint and clear you intend to use. Sometimes mixing brands works, sometimes it doesn't. S...

Re: 55 Steering wheel restoration
I think there are too many small cracks (close together) to cut into them and fill them. The 55 wheel has notches on the bottom half that might be difficult to fill around. Has anyone done this to a wheel that looks like mine?

55 Steering wheel restoration
My TBird blue wheel has spider cracks everywhere. I've been getting quotes form $800/900 to "repair" and refinish to $2,100 to recast the wheel with new material.
Has anyone had their wheel restored? Which method and how long has it held up?

Re: radiator recommendation
I paid $665 to get the original 1955 re-cored. The shop that did the work told me the original will outperform the aluminum replacements.

Need a lift in my garage
I am considering getting a lift for my garage. I have low ceiling and cannot fit a lift with posts. Is anyone using one of those scissor type lifts?
I would like to find something I can leave in place and drive over it when not is use.
