I have included this article and some other material that I have written into my personal website. Some of this material was written for an online Adobe Dreamweaver CS5 class that I just completed. So there is some history stuff there that I kind of lifted from Wikipedia. I have also corrected some errors on the zinc plating process. However, there is an error in the Wikipedia info contained in the 64-66 section. It states that in '66 the base version of the 390 lost 25 horsepower due to the use of a two-barrel carburetor. But in fact all '66 engines used four-barrel carbs, as in previous years. A smaller (1.08 vs. 1.12 venturi) four-barrel was used on some cars; maybe this is where the confusion arises.

Thanks for pointing that out, I will fix it. Just goes to show to not use Wikipedia for all of your information needs. There is also an error on my zinc plating page that needs to be fixed. That came from Wikipedia also.

This thread inspired me to look into my wonky shifter again.
I still had the slop and poor indicator positioning after rebuilding the column years ago. I adjusted the linkage at the trans as well but the indicator was still goofy at P and R. Because of this post, I went looking for the bushings on my 64 only to find that the bolt that secures the arm at the bottom of the column was very loose. After tightening it the indicator is perfect.
The bolt is in the center of this pic with a 9/16 wrench on it.
