Any other motorcyclists out there?

Post by 60fore »

Back in June I picked up a MLCV (mid-life crisis vehicle). It's a 2009 Suzuki S83 which is a 1400 cc. V-twin cruiser-style bike. I hadn't ridden in over 25 years but when a buddy of mine bought a bike I got the bug again. This bike had no miles on it because the previous owners had won it in a contest and never even registered it; they were trike riders. It was too good a deal to pass up so I pulled the trigger.

Finally got my motorcycle license in early Aug. and I'm having a blast riding this thing. Would be interested in seeing other forum members' rides so post 'em if you got 'em!

Would also appreciate recommendations on good motorcycle-related websites to visit.

Well if Jim Mills buys a motorcycle, I'm running to South America, the streets just won't be safe with two of you out there.

I dont have any pics downloaded right now but I ride a 1977 Honda CB750K. I bought it back in 03 and rode it for 2 years and then carbs got clogged up and I let it sit for 4 years. I got it running again this year and ride to work once a week or so.Having 3 kids under 6 makes it tough to get out by myself.
A 66 Thunderbird is cool. A Sapphire Blue 66 is a beautiful car. The 428 engine completes the package.

A CB750K, now that's a 70's classic! I bought my first bike in '80, it was a Yamaha XS-400 Special.

I can see how having a young family would cramp your riding style; in my case I gave up riding because I was living in an apartment and had no indoor bike storage. After having my bike's seat slashed twice in a month I said 'the hell with it' and sold it.

I've a 2001 FXDXT (A Harley Dynaglide T-Sport) and Mrs Scumdog has a '97 Harley Sportster 'S'

AND I also have a '83 Suzuki XN85. (A facory Turbo'd and injected item - Google it!)

So between hot-rods, Harleys and the Thunderbird we have little time for house-work and lawn-mowing!!!

Yes, one must keep his/her priorities straight.

That Suzuki is a sharp bike and looks very advanced for its time; must be quite rare today?

Would have dearly loved to get a Harley but cost was a major consideration; maybe next spring if I've sold the 60fore...I'm thinking Dyna Low Rider or Street Bob.

Gary, we already talked about bikes but this spurred me into finding a picture of my other garage baby, the "Chrome Queen", 1983 Honda Aspencade with more bling than a pimps Caddy! Comfortable and fun to ride.

Funny, I've gone the opposite direction, Gary - I rode most of my life (got my first "street" bike, a used '66 Suzuki Scrambler 80 when I was 14 or 15), then stopped about 12 years ago, and haven't had one since.
I was more of a cafe racer and sportbike guy, and have had some fun rides over the years. Turned a '74 Yamaha TX500 into a cafe bike. Also had an '81 Yamaha Turbo (!), '83 Suzuki GS1100, '84 Kawasaki Ninja (900), '95 Ducati 900SS, and a '96 Ninja 600. I'm sure I'm missing one or two here, but you get the idea.
I must confess I've had a new Triumph Thruxton on the brain the last couple of years, and maybe even building a tricked-out Manx-style old Honda CB500 or 550-4. Mmmm...fun.

when i ride i roll on a custom built Honda "50cc" dirtbike.
its been worked over a ton, not much stock on it except for the plastics.
its been bored out with a big bore kit to 88cc's
extended swing arm
disk brakes front and rear
fmf exhaust pipe
aluminum wheels
big boy bars and risers

been worked over in almost every way possible.

Funny you should mention Triumph Dan because the other bike I lust after is a Thunderbird of a different feather - the Triumph Thunderbird Storm. That is one mean-lookin' cruiser!

@Dale - That bike is in fantastic shape, is that the one you're trying to sell? If so I can't believe it hasn't gone already. If I had any room in my garage (or any money) we'd be talkin' turkey mister!

Great stuff everybody, keep 'em coming!

Hey Vic
I want you to come over and let me try that out one of these days. As soon as the farmer cuts down the corn.
