"60 T-bird power steering need.

Post by mike carr »

Bought a '60 convertible. Previous owner took out power steering. Ford often carried over parts. Can another Ford year steering be used. Also, it's common for the power steering to leak. Is this just a given?

Thanks, Mike

60 Power Steering

This is my understanding. The 1960 T-Bird PS unit is unique to the 60 T-Bird ONLY. The original fittings were 5/16". Other years are 1/4" fittings. I am not an expert on this. Thid is only what I have read. There was an artical in `Hemmings Motor News` that related to this, sadly I have lost the article and am now relying on memory. AND the old brain is not as good as it once was.

60 Power Steering

Yes the 60 had 5/16 fittings. No they are not supposed to leak. There are plenty of used and rebuilt units around as well as rebuild/seal kits. No need to try to fit something else.
