'55 Thunderbird Fuel Pump

Post by eb88 »

Apologies if this has already been answered but i've been out of the loop for a few years.
We've just had our second Airtex fuel pump fail. The first lasted one journey and the second is now leaking. Using ethanol free fuel.
I still have my original AC pump, which hasn't seen the road in nearly fourty years.
Is there a reliable reproduction pump for sale or is there anyone who can rebuild my original?
Many thanks in advance.

From a previous post .... Arthur Gould rebuilders turned it around in a day even over 4th of July weekend. $130 plus shipping for a complete rebuild, cleaning, and pressure test. I hand tested it and now getting the type of suction you would expect out of the bottom! They rebuild fuel and water pumps. Well worth it! They told me they can rebuild just about any fuel pump brand. Not really shying away from airtex or china like others are.

Casco was/is paying $50 for American-made rebuildable fuel pump cores. Why? There have been too many problems with pumps made in China. If I recall, pumps that were made in Mexico & possibly South Korea, are okay as well. Apparently, electric pumps that are made in China are a problem as well.

I sold my old AC pump to casco for $75, you could probably buy a rebuilt one from them.

Good luck. Those things are as rare as hen's teeth. Originals are quite rebuildable.

I’ve seen AGRebuilders sell rebuilt pumps on eBay. They rebuilt mine it was about one week door to door

I had Arthur Gould (now AG Rebuilders) in Mass. rebuild a couple of pumps for me and had no problems. Been awhile, don't remember turn around time but it wasn't bad. Might have some in stock.

They have a great reputation. I bought the kit from Then and Now and had a local classic car shop rebuild mine. Works great. Wipers now work like a squirrel flipping it's tail and had to tighten up my fuel connections to adapt to the better fuel pressure also.
