64 Moog Idler arm

Post by sacredsteel »

I'm upgrading my 61 idler arm and center link to the more beefier 64 parts and came across this Moog idler arm that is the ball joint style vs the shaft/bushing. Has anyone ever seen or used one of these? Seems like a good design. Moog must not make them anymore because they are not listed on their web site. Thanks

I had something similar on my '63 hardtop when I first got it in 1981. When it came time to restore the steering system in the early 1990s I could not find a replacement like it and went with the '64 arm/bushing setup, which had just come out from The Bird Nest around the same time.

Not meaning to hijack this thread, but I’m currently replacing the (standard)
idler arm bushing on my ‘65 hardtop.i’m wondering:

is there a good reason to (or not to) drill and add a grease zerk at the idler arm?

TIA for your thoughts.
