Vacuum Line

Post by jacobjp52285 »

Hey guys, I've searched a few times and couldn't find anything to address this specifically.

I have a vacuum line coming off my carb on my 62 (a carter/edelbrock style carb) that had a fuel filter hooked to hit, but it wasn't hooked up to anything else. It was like this when I purchased the car, and I haven't been able to place what it is. I've taken it off and plugged the vacuum line, but I'm curious as to what it is, the purpose it serves, and where it needs to hook up to.

Also, I was curious if anyone had a vacuum diagram or knew where a set were I could purchase for the car.

Thanks all!

Post a picture if you can.
An
Echlin Device
Looked like a fuel filter.
It was a late mid 70's attempt to get pre smog california cars to comply.
It was a regulated vacuum leak and usually was spliced between a carb vacuum and the distributor vacuum. Unless it's gummed up, it should rattle when you shake it.

Other Echlin are silver, the size of a matchbox and have a red and green wire.

UPDATE

It's a vapor vent.

I'm running a Carter / Edelbrock 1406. Note me or my dad have nearly exclusively worked with EFI/Holley/AutoLite setups.

We capped it off thinking it was a vacuum, but it was vapor vent and capping it was causing a vapor lock.

Took the cap off, put a fuel filter back on. Problem solved.
