AC Case Support Bracket

Does anyone know what the bracket circled in red is supporting? I've looked in the Electrical Assembly Manual page E2-4720-2, which is the exploded view of the AC case but the bracket isn't shown. My 62 Thunderbird shop manual in the Air Conditioning Group 10 shows the bracket with no connection points. The best illustration is the first attachment which is from an AC Manual on the Vintage Air website. Strangely enough my 62 does not have the bracket or the mount for the bracket on the AC case. The last photo shows the bracket assembled to the case and I am puzzled as to what the end with the slot is going to attach to.
