Length oil dipstick

Post by Rick60 »

Hi, new member from Germany. Eric, 63 yo, owner of a 62 Thunderbird Convertible with Roadster specs (or genuine Roadster, not yet made clear).

The car came to me in excellent condition, but the oil dipstick has been ‘modified’ (to say the least) by the PO.

Does somebody have an original oil dipstick for that car she/he’d be willing to part with or alternatively, can please somebody measure such a dipstick from where it sits on the dipstick tube to the max and min marks?

Thanks folks.

Thanks, helps a lot. This is inches, not cm I guess?

Cm wouldn’t make sense. A total length of 27 cm wouldn’t reach the oil pan. Again, thanks, your help is much appreciated.

Total length from where the stick rests on the tube to the bottom = 27.5 in
Bottom to Add mark = 1.5 in
Bottom to Full mark = 3.2 in

This is for the archives, should anybody need the measurements like me.

I have a current 61-64 Thunderbird reproduction dipstick that measures 27.5 to the outside of the cap that covers the tube. The full mark is 3" from the bottom. Close to reported original specs.

Claybreaker, do you have a source for the reproduction dipstick?

I am pretty sure most Tbird vendors are selling these for close to $30, I purchased from Eckler's but have had problems with their service. After I ordered this I bought a 65 dipstick and tube for $6 in the classified here. I returned the reproduction and it showed back up at my home because Ecklers thought I wanted a replacement instead of a return!
