66 bird rear quarter windows
My rear quarter windows require me to pull up the glass while lifting the switch. I previously replaced one of the motors. Assuming I need to disassemble the entire system and remove all old grime and debris from the tracks, so the window can smoothly go up and down. Are there any tricks to cleaning without a complete removal?

Re: 66 bird rear quarter windows
I had a similar problem and after endless bench testing, cleaning, aligning, lubing....I found that a FoMoCo motor worked when a new, bn motor would not.
Re: 66 bird rear quarter windows
Really appreciate your feedback.
With the cleaning, aligning and lubing,
Did you remove the tracks and rollers to completely take it apart?
I have one with the original motor and the other with a newer.
Since it’s a convertible, I’m figuring just got gunky over time.

Re: 66 bird rear quarter windows
I have a 65 convertible. Took out the cassette more times than I can count. took out tracks, cleaned, lubed multiple times. Replaced the regulator and wheels thinking there was misalignment or a burr or ??. Worked countless times on the bench, not in the car. Adjusted over and over in the car, very limited success. Put in a working fomoco motor and bingo, it works.

I bought my motor at Thunderbird Headquarters.
Can someone send a link?
Are y’all talking about a refurbished original motor? Or is there something I’m missing?

Re: 66 bird rear quarter windows
I bought the fomoco motor on bay I think, can't remember if it was refurbished or not. Prior to that I put in a bn motor- didn't work. I'm told the fomoco motors have more torque and I guess that's what I needed.
Re: 66 bird rear quarter windows
Just a suggestion here,,,look up on YouTube, how to take these motors apart, clean them , put them back together. If I can find the one I watched last year, I’ll post the link. It’s by Nick, from vintage thunderbird club. The video helped me so much. Good luck.

I got a tapco brand.
Still needing clarification….
Is FoMoCo meaning a refurbished?
Or is there a brand I’m missing.
Also, there’s a guy named Jim in Florida who rebuilds old ones.

Found that YouTube video.
He’s showing how to take apart, clean up, and reassemble.
My motor unit has some mild rust around the turn mechanism on the bottom (not the gear), and last I checked didn’t work. I’m thinking it needs a deep disassemble.
I just checked, my original FoMoCo window is working fine, just slow. The new motor side barely works at all.

fomoco= Ford Motor Company... original motor.
Re: 66 bird rear quarter windows
Since both motors are working slowly, I would look at the tension on the spring. Also check the amount and condition of the grease in the tracks. These are nylon rollers and don't need a lot of lubrication. Grease, as it ages in the open air will pick up dirt and dry out. It then becomes glue.

Re: 66 bird rear quarter windows
I contacted John Draxler.
He will rebuild the motor! Yay!
I think that’s the problem.
If all goes well,
I’ll have him rebuild the other!
Will keep y’all updated.

Re: 66 bird rear quarter windows
Is there anyway to change the motor in a newer to make it stronger?
Re: 66 bird rear quarter windows
Another two questions…
Was four years ago so my memory has failed.
1) should I have replaced the power motor gear? Even if it looked good?
2) should I have used ample new gear grease?

Re: 66 bird rear quarter windows
Bad news….
My FoMoCo original rear quarter window motor is trashed destroyed inside.
Anyone know if there are any out there to buy????
Or
Is there a way to replace the motor in the new ones with a stronger motor that works better?
